I don't think Stars fans understand how excited they should be hearing the Suter news. He is still a top pairing D and during his prime was one of the best in the league.

I know Campbell has durability questions and they need a B goalie, but after he won like 15 games in a row last year, what does he have to do to get some irrational exuberance from the Megadowners? Suck your Richards?

Campbell has more skill than most, his biggest obstacles seem to be between the ears. Might need to get laid more often like that pitcher in Bull Durham. Drafted 11th overall, make him the highest goalie picked since Carey Price.

I would absolutely trade Rielly and do it before the season starts. After yet another collapse we need a major move and a message sent to players that the core can be broken up. I also am getting tired of losing players for nothing and we can't afford to resign Rielly, which is becoming clearer by the day. Time to be proactive...

It's the forward cap situation that is castrating this roster. One of the big four up front should go. A real goalie should be part of the deal. Instead we are going to get Jaro Halak and a bunch of plugs.

Not down on Campbell, just the fact that he has injury issues. If he's out for an extended period of time and we have to run with Hutchinson and Woll, we can kiss the playoffs goodbye.

Sucks we couldn't get Ned from Carolina. He would've been a perfect complement for only a 3rd and the rights to Andersen.

Fairly sure Leafs are looking for a back up. Doubt it is their #1 priority though. I am not a big fan of Hutchinson. His 2018-19 season was pure sh!t. That said he is still about .500 for his career with a .906 SP - OK for a backup. I would think that Dubas will be working on replacing Hyman and shoring up the defense first.

While the Top 4 are over paid aside from Matthew's they at least produce. I'm not against trading any of them but let's not act like they're producing at a rate of Johansson or Duchene, for example, and that its a major problem. I think Dubas and that core 4 have one year left to at least win a round, if not then it's their turn to be fired/traded. But right now Rielly is a more pressing issue as his contract is set to expire so a decision must be made one way or another.

I disagree. A capable partner for Campbell is absolutely priority 1. Except Dubas has fooked himself with no trade chips and will have to be reliant on some kind of FA plug. Get ready for the 'Jaro Halak era'.

With the way our cap is structured, I think we have to go with a backup to Campbell, as opposed to a 1A/1B set-up.

I'm not happy about it, but we simply don't have $5M to spend on a goalie.

It's a risk we are forced to take.

I agree, and I am leaning toward trading Rielly for assets as the better option at this point. If the Leafs move him for a defenseman that can play right now and a good future piece, they can use some of the cap to add a UFA. I don't think Hamilton is affordable for the Leafs, but a top four defender would be great. If the Leafs simply extend Rielly, that's all they get.

So you mention trading a big contract up front then mention Landeskog. You understand it would create the same issue right?

It's the same thing every summer. Fans now think they need "insert big name here" or else they are doomed.

No, we are not "forced". We are only in this situation b/c of Dubas' inflexibility and stubbornness.
