Right, but let’s say he signed with the Panthers just saying, they pay a 0 income tax down there so he himself saves a ton.

10%
for a 5M per contract, it's a 500k difference

yeah, zero taxes might be hard to beat lol, but how much the player appreciates playing in MTL might also be a factor weighing in his decision. I've read comments here saying he's not the kind of guy who can handle the pressure well but I feel it's quite the opposite, and that he wants to stay. hopefully this is all resolved very soon...

Let me ask you this… would you not trade Drouin for any of our divisional rivals top 2 LW except for Detroit and Buffalo. Bruins (Marchand/Hall), Florida (Verhegee/Huberdeau), Ottawa (Tkachuk, Stulz), TB (Palat, Killhorn) and Toronto (Nylander/Kerfoot). Ok maybe not Kerfoot but this is just in our division!

I hope you are right Pat!

Out of this list I’d personally would only trade him for Huberdeau, Hall, Marchand and Nylander. Possibly Tkachuk.

Right but since he’s being paid in Qubec he falls into the 51% bracket. Please correct me if I’m wrong, I’m most certainly not a financial guru.

but at the same time, we've been waiting for YEARS for him to show up. maybe we were right to critic?

- fidopro

well a lot of the criticism he received was totally justified, I just find everything was also too often blown out of proportion (mainly the "he's lazy and he simply has no heart" narrative). I'm very intrigued to finally hear about him and what happened, surely he'll address the media before the season starts.

no, I mean that a player in Mtl must make 5.5M to have the same money in his pocket (after taxes) than a player in FLA making 5M.
multiply that by 20 players... and canadian teams are in trouble. no wonder we don't win cups.

not sure if you were part of the convo but I specifically brought this up here recently, wondering why there were no financial mechanisms in place so that teams could be all on the same playing field in terms of 'Murican vs Canadian tax deductions.

I’m honestly unfamiliar with this subject. What I’m saying is in Quebec someone who makes 5M a year owes the government 51% at the end of the year. Where as certain States have a 0 percent income tax so they literally keep the entire 5M. I understand cost of living in the United States etc. Again I can be completely wrong and don’t no the details.

some states, like FLA and TEX don't have state taxes, but players still have to pay the federal taxes.
it's like if here, let say there's no provincial taxes in Alberta, but Mcdavid would still pay his feferal taxes to Ottawa.

I have to agree! We’ve waited long enough pour la vedette québécoise. He’s had alot of chances. I think Jo is a great complimentary player but we see him as a core player. He’s not a player you build around.

Quick poll…

Drouin or Tatar?

yeah, which is why it could make sense for a lot of teams, not just the canadian ones (and even then, 7 professional teams is nothing to scoff at either)
