Coming in second is still losing.
Stan had to go big enough to take him off the market that's what he was bidding against, ✅
Secondly, when a player signs an "extension" look at it as making the current year whole. It happens every time in other sports, usually by way of signing bonus. I have no idea what they did with Jones. I just know I'd rather have him playing for us than not. There's still two guys on the team making more than he does. - rpeters01

It was a reactionary draft by the Hawks. It wasn't a maybe on the reach. Allen was projected as a 4th, maybe late 3rd round pick.
It might be the worst draft the Hawks have had under Bowman and Kelley.
The next GM is going to have one heel of a mess to clean up.
Also, when was the last time a 1C UFA was on the market? - Elbows15
It might be...it might not be.
I think rating a draft and determining how bad it is the day after is kinda silly. |

Having Murphy first pairing by default says "we're not great." - rpeters01
I’d like to see Murphy stick around a while longer, he’s great for the 2nd pairing. I’d say there’s a 50/50 chance he sticks around. He’s not a break the bank type of d-man, but 3 years at $4 million would be fine (assuming de Haan and Zadorov are gone). |

I agree that's where be belongs and would like to keep him a few more years but I think he will cost $5-6. |

I agree. Murphy is a solid dman. He is a good second pairing....with Beaudin/Mitchell in the future. |

I'm not one of the big proponents of hits and fights, but damn if I didn't at this one as it was floating around in the Jones fans camp.

So long as the player doesn’t vacate his position to make a hit like Zadorov would do too often last year. |

He has been the most steady 2-way dman on the team. They can slot him in #2 or #3 on the blueline and he will do his job. |

That is the one thing I don't like about Zadorov. |

Did he do that often or was he just lost and too slow in the head?

Murphy and Jones are both RD, Murphy will be on second pairing. Kalynuk can play with Jones and who will be paired with Murphy is TBD, as there’s still a couple of months of offseason left. This does not mean that I believe that Kalynuk is currently a #1 or #2, I just think that his game will compliment the new Dman well. Larsson just signed for 4x4, like Darth I’d like to see something in that range for Murphy as they play a similar game. |

I hope he does ok, he seems like a good kid, but I think his ceiling is a top four, nifty puck mover, not a leader. - FeatheredFinn
A week ago, he was another Stan Fail, cause he couldn't stay healthy and already had too many concussions to ever be useful.
Now he will go down in Hawks Hockeybuzz lore, along with Leddy, TT and Danault
Lets be honest about at least this one point, Seth Jones is way, way better than Adam B. (who would still be due a new contract soon)
Is he enough better to justify the trade and subsequent extension, that's a different debate. |

Hey D… how’s it shaking?
I don’t think Stan is done. The Hawks have holes in their roster (so many holes) and I wouldn’t expect to see Stan take a big swing at Jones and stop there (but this is Stan ).
I don’t expect big moves, but there’s lots that can and needs to be done. Hopefully Stan doesn’t take away from the youth movement too much.
- trade or sign Zadorov (hopefully the former)
- trade de Haan
- re-sign Murphy (I’d like to see him signed to reasonable 3 year deal
- pick up a UFA d-man and/or forward to be flipped at the TDL
- sign/acquire a veteran goalie to help support Lankinen - DarthKane
Hey Darth! Things are good. How about you?
I think you've got a good to do list for Stanblow. |

If Jones hits the open market he gets every penny and year of this contract and we don't get the first cheap year of use. We can debate forever what the draft choices turn into but Boqvist is easily replaced at this point. I remember me saying a few months back Boqvist was our best trade bait thank you very much!

Reports out that Niklas Hjalmarsson is set to retire. He has been back home in Sweden and was about to play there for 2021-22. |

I'd like to see more consolidation and upgrading in both groups. The two goalies I could try again. Is a vet any better than Suban, doubt it? And they love him in the locker room. Signing a "Janmark" not a bad idea maybe his name is "Saad" after he gets offers like 3@$3? |

It also won't age well the fact that Seth Jones will be wearing jersey #4. There's still time to change the number but Jones is already under a microscope so this may add to what is arguably unwarranted ire towards him. |
