The money is too much for sure, but the assets lost are what really hurts. C’est la vie. All we can do now is hope Seth proves us all wrong. I’ll be rooting for it, but won’t be holding my breath.

Not directed at me, but as a frequent flyer, I can tell you the airports are insane, especially my hub in Charlotte.

must be tons of pent up family travel dollars being spent............

And they are paying for the upgrades, limiting the free upgrade ability of all of us loyal flyers

I don’t know if I should answer that. Apparently it irritates some people.

You and me both. It is what it is and onwards. I have a nagging feeling in my pants that he will be fine if not better for the duration of his deal...its not like he is 42 when it expires and the situation in Columbus certainly didnt bring the best out of anyone. I am sure that if he played in Carolina (Hamilton) he wouldve had 0,75ppg easily.

They don't have as much of that as most think. If you take a look at the RFAs still to sign.
- Elbows15

Might be more if they move one or more of deHaan, Zadorov, Strome, Connolly. Also it is still a possibility that Toews comeback is cut short and he goes on LTIR. (Though I am hoping Captain Serious comes back blazing.)

The Jones deal is crippling like Bobrovsky in Florida but it’s made worse by the 8th year plus the significant assets given up to acquire him.
- DarthKane

How is that crippling exactly. He´ll be, what 34-35 when it ends and could be playing wery well at that point. Its not a Karlsson or Josi situation.

I dont understand the coming out party of Toews if he is still not 100%.

I’m still not doing any business travel, however visiting grandkids last week and O’Hare was indeed insane. Need to start traveling for work again, I need to accumulate more miles as my wife and I are using them all up.

I think every poster feels it was an gross overpayment in terms of assets given up and contract $/length. Only time will tell as to how “crippling” it will be.

The Canucks are buying out Jake Virtanen. I wish I were joking, but I could see Stan giving him a shot.

The combined cost in $/cap space and assets given up could be crippling in the future. Not to mention if Boqvist becomes a top pair defender. Time will tell.

I think at this point even Toews is unsure whether or not he can comeback to be the player he was or even if he can make it back at all.

The first 2-3 of having Jones will be good, after that, not so much.

Stan found a way to replicate the Suter, Parise, and Bobrovsky deals all in one but make it even worse.

An overpayment yes, gross overpayment is to be determined. Unlike some here, I’m in the wait and see camp.

Don't think its as bad as Bob, Parise either, but it certainly could be thought of as equal to Suter, though i'm guessing back then, Suter's money was a bigger % of the cap.

The thing with Jone's over payment. Is the salary structure moving forward. Why should any players take a discount when the front office has money to burn(apparently) It is going to make negotiations a struggle (imo).

You cant possibly know that, he´ll be 28-29 then. And everybody has a contract that is a bit scary to the end side. Lets just hope for the best and see what comes. And none of those contracts mesh with the Jones-deal.

They felt that they needed to get this done now to put the good ship Blackhawk on the road...or sails. Just like they had to do with Campbell years ago because this stale going doesnt satisfy anyone. Oh, except the pessimists and they arent really human anyways.

Does anyone have a hands-on description of the lesser Jones? I have nothing on him. What kind of a player he is and is he an NHL-player?

This family thing is cute, but I surely hope they are putting the skill and potential of the "other" sibling as a priority. If they had the player ranked somewhere around where they picked them, then fine. But if they grabbed them a mile early just on that factor...then I totally disagree. Hope Colton Dach was at least close to his draft spot on the Hawks board, or it is a silly ploy.

I really like the fact they put such an emphasis on size on Day two. Again, I hope they didn't reach too far in doing this or that they ignored players they had pencilled higher JUST to get the size....but, Hawks were really void of size the past few drafts, particularly on the back-end guys. You can have a small skilled D-man or two....but to go deep, you need 3-4-5 big solid D-men to go the distance. Some analytic guys disagree...and that is fine.....opinions vary. But, in my mind...and looking at deep runs by MOST Cup finalists the last umpteen years....one common thread is having some warrior D-men in the fold. Maybe one or two of those big guys pan out for the Hawks.

- hawk35

Out of Vlassic, Crevier and these guys, two would be fantastic. Although he doesn't play big, Regula is no Smurf either. I haven't looked it up but I think Stillman has decent size. Then there's Big Z who will either be traded, take Stan's best offer or play for the QO or go back to mother Russia but at least the saga will be over soon.
