I am ok with the draft. Maybe a reach on the First pick. I think Bowman is still focused on being competitive in 3 years. We have a nice blend of young dmen. Some size and snarl and some wheels and offense. Several bottom 6 options. Top 6 including Kane, Debrincat, Kubalik, Reichel, Dach. Toews probably done by then. But you never know. Maybe 1C or 2c free agent center needed? Goalies Lankinen, Commesso, Soderblom. A few trades or free agents here and there. Will things pan out? Will it be a dumpster fire? Elbows may be sure we are the latter, but I am not so sure. - Ztra
It was a reactionary draft by the Hawks. It wasn't a maybe on the reach. Allen was projected as a 4th, maybe late 3rd round pick.
It might be the worst draft the Hawks have had under Bowman and Kelley.
The next GM is going to have one heel of a mess to clean up.
Also, when was the last time a 1C UFA was on the market? |

Drafted Crawford, Keith and Seabs as well. Thought he was at the helm when they drafted Tuomo too but other than Ruttuu and Seabs' his first rounders didn't pan out.
At least he gets mentioned now when people refer to "the team that Tallon built".
Now that the draft is done, it will be interesting to see what other moves the Hawks make. It's been pointed out but even with no Keith or Boqvist, it's still a pretty crowded blue line. Hopefully they can at least find Z a new home...maybe deHaan too. - HawkintheD
Hey D… how’s it shaking?
I don’t think Stan is done. The Hawks have holes in their roster (so many holes) and I wouldn’t expect to see Stan take a big swing at Jones and stop there (but this is Stan ).
I don’t expect big moves, but there’s lots that can and needs to be done. Hopefully Stan doesn’t take away from the youth movement too much.
- trade or sign Zadorov (hopefully the former)
- trade de Haan
- re-sign Murphy (I’d like to see him signed to reasonable 3 year deal
- pick up a UFA d-man and/or forward to be flipped at the TDL
- sign/acquire a veteran goalie to help support Lankinen |

What exactly do the Hawks have to deal that will recoup a 1st round pick? That doesn't create another one that needs to be filled? |

Agreed. I doubt the Hawks get any NHL regulars from this draft. Maybe Dach, but that’s a stretch. |

Sign a high quality UFA to a big 1 year deal and flip him at the TDL. |

For those interested USA, FIN, SWE are playing in the World Junior Summer Showcase in Plymouth, MI this week (Canada is not there cuz of the pandemic). It's being streamed on Hockey TV. I doubt many have that subscription but you may find a link to watch. Here's one I find helpful http://onhockey.tv/index....place=sawlive&channel=tvh
USA has a Team Blue and White. Both play today. White at noon and Blue at 3:00.
Hawk's property at the tournament.

Why is a high quality FA signing a one year deal with Chicago? Heck, why are signing a one year deal anyway? |

It was very odd. It is almost as if they just threw away the draft on purpose. |

They do not need much to deal. They have cap space this year. They can take on a big expiring contract. I am not saying it will happen. But it is a possibility in some kind of package. |

$$$$$
They may not find high dollar long term offers from a team they want to play for. Like musical chairs, after the music stops there is always a player or two without a chair. It happens sometimes. |

Money.
I’m not saying that will or even could happen, just that’s how the Hawks could recount their first round pick. None of the expendable players on the roster would return a 1st round pick. They could get some 2nd round picks, but not 1st.

I can't believe that CHI overpaid in the trade for Jones, and then massively overpaid him for 8 years. Wow. |

Bowman hasn't shown any ability to do that at all. He took on a dog contract in Connelly and the best he did was get a pipe dream in Borgstrom and AHL tweener in Stillman. |

The Jones deal is crippling like Bobrovsky in Florida but it’s made worse by the 8th year plus the significant assets given up to acquire him. |

I guess but I think the more attractive FAs will sign for less with contenders. |

The money is too much for sure, but the assets lost are what really hurts. C’est la vie. All we can do now is hope Seth proves us all wrong. I’ll be rooting for it, but won’t be holding my breath.

They don't have as much of that as most think. If you take a look at the RFAs still to sign. |

Ya, but he probably still has enough to take one bad contract in the short term, also will matter who is still here a week from now. |
