As Canuck fans we are living in the illusion now. Every time our goaltending gets hot our team looks amazing. Even last season as poopy as it was, the team went on a bit of a tear in the second half (complete opposite from the first half). Once again, great goaltending was the driving force behind that success.

I don't mind watching hot Goaltending carry the team under any circumstances. This year I'm curious if the changes in personnel on and off the ice will have an effect on team play. If not, I'm ready for some nasty chants and some new faces behind the bench and in the boardroom.

Benning did Vegas a favour, as he did with Tampa.

The man has handed out a sh*t ton of picks since he's been here.

That's going to hurt in a few years.

That describes most NHL teams…there are a few all around teams and then a big mix that rise, middle out, or fall based on goaltending (even more pronounced in the playoffs)

This is the 8th draft with Benning as Canucks GM.

He's traded away 23 draft picks including two 1sts, SIX 2nds, and five 3rds.

Yet half the fanbase defends him.

Yet the Canucks have a great top 6, all 28 years old and under. They have OEL and Hughes. They have a franchise goalie. A promising young power forward in Podkolzin coming in as well. Could they used a defensive minded RD, sure. But there's still time to fill that spot.

And yet all people are doing is female doging.

Both extremes are too defined by their original stance to give…ride or die at this point. I hope the Canucks do well, happy if they are more patient or decide to go for it, and not interested in cheering for Seattle…that’s where I land

Use whatever narrative you like. As a business after 8 years and having an expansion team which has never played a game at 41.00 and the Canucks at 61.00 to win the cup. At what point do you say enough is enough? 8 years, 10 years or? The result's to date have been clearly unacceptable. If ownership continues down this path of ineptitude, bless their dumb hearts.

That being said, it’s still the hardest trophy in sports to win. Look at the disappointment in Colorado this year. I would have thought they’d get a lot closer. At the end of the day, close only counts in horseshoes and grenades

I'll wait for the start of the season to see how those odds play out

Seattle's off to a good start but they have zero top end talent. Their defense is deeper, but I wouldn't say better. Demko >>> Driedger. Seattles Top 6 isn't close to what Vancouver can put on the ice and the bottom 6's are pretty much a wash

Vancouver has had 8 years, Seattle zero. So it's understandable.

Seattle ain't Vegas, and Francis didn't have the luxury of being first and able to hold GMs over the barrel and get players like Theodore, Marchessault, Karlsson and 3 first round picks in the entry draft all for not taking certain players. Seattle will likely be a bubble team this year, just like the Canucks. And honestly, if Benning fails to make the playoffs this year, he's out along with his staff and Green and we start over again. Either way it'll be fun now that we'll have a Battle of Alberta style rivalry with a team that's nearby.

Probably a different style of rivalry, less city vs city and more team vs team .New West Bruins/Seattle Breakers/Portland Winterhawks was a rivalry that had a
lot more passion. Ernie Maclean, the coach of the Bruins was a real character infamous for his trash can tossing on the ice when he disagreed with a call. They even had to chain and lock the cans by the bench to stop it. Bench clearing brawls (and stand clearing brawls ) were common. It was quite the thing to watch as a youngster
