Wasn’t one of their coaches sharpening his pencil in some rookies’ sharpeners??

And they were allowed to draft??

I guess that’s cool..

- pete26

No, he choked his chicken in front of a player.

But if he’s a good one that made a mistake.

I give the benefit of the doubt all the time.

Let’s not hang him just yet..

- pete26

So, if he was a poopty (or heck, even mediocre) player, then (frank) him?

C'mon, you are better than that, Pete.

The kid has done nothing to show he made changes that warrants being drafted, other than having a good PR team crafting messages for him.

When (or if) he does show changes through actions, then yes, give the kid a shot. The onus is on him to show it, not for us to accept he might.

But don't reward him for doing nothing, or in this case, cause he might be able to play hockey at the NHL level.

17y, 6’4 220lbs. The guy is going to be a monster and was ranked top 25 on a lot of central. I know the young guy made a mistake but he’s a kid, who did not? And who am I to judge him anyway.

From the hockey side, this might be a pretty good pick, specially since we are missing some RD talent.

- MONSTERSofMETALZ

He’s a stud plain and simple. Really hoping he pans out.

This is the worst take ever.

But thanks for playing, I guess.

Hey dude, I don't know if you have been yourself victim of something similar but I think we got your point on that...

Do I agree with that pick? Absolutely not... But it is what it is...

If you want to really have an impact about it, just cheer for another team...

So don't be critical of the team, just GTFO?

(frank) that.

tbf to the kid, he tried to get out of this draft to give himself some space to do just that.

I am sure drafting this kid is gonna help that.

Fair enough.

As I said, the kid (and his agent / team / family) had more sense in the last few weeks than a whole professional hockey team.

Pathetic.

As I said, not sure it is worth all the poopshow and he has not played a single minute with a habs jersey and to get there, it will be hell of ride...

I think he has as much chance to play in the NHL than the Habs going to the Cup Finals..

Anything is possible...

Usually, those things get resolved by themselves...

I will make a prediction... He he makes it to the NHL, he is be a top pair Dman... No way he will be an ordinary player... It is a homerun or a strikeout... Time will tell

Think about it... Bergevin just pulled a huge distraction and no matter how he does to rebuild his team in coming weeks, the only thing we will talk about will the the drafting of a convict...

They will even do something about that at the Bye Bye at the end of year...

Great blog! I like the fact that you aren’t afraid to tell it like it is!

MB couldn’t pass on the potential. I guess they’ll figure out the rest with the kid.

For what it’s worth, I hope he gets what he deserves and that the young lady teaches him a good lesson! Respecting someones intimacy is mandatory!

Hopefully he’ll learn his lesson! We’ll see how much character he really has. People can change when they take responsibility for their actions.

Thanks for the unbiased and honest take Karine, have enjoyed your blogs over the last few months and this was no different. I really appreciate how you're holding up the organization as a whole to a standard that goes beyond the GM and on ice success.

This is what I’m saying. Why draft him? He may prove to be remorseful and truly changed sometime in the future and deserving of another chance but character rarely changes. Why do it?

A Happy Ending.

Can't blame the guy for Montreal picking him.

What Montreal did was just bring even more hate to the guy. If they'd left him alone, maybe by next year the guy could have done some volunteering, redeemed himself in some way with the woman involved, etc etc and people might have given him the benefit of the doubt.

With this pick Montreal ensured this won't leave the the man at all. The Habs are f ing retarded. What a black mark on the franchise.

All the goodwill from the underdog run, flushed down the toilet.

Best case, the player doesn't come to North America, and says he's not participating in any Montreal related or NHL activities. Plays in Europe, KHL, for 5 years then signs as a free agent with the Bruins.

Unfortunately a lot of the time, a guys talent will overrule his personality. They got a guy who apparently was in 10-15 range at 31, that’s probably all they see. They will try to work with his problems. Look at trevor Bauer. If that guy wasn’t a dominant mlb pitcher, he would of been cut weeks ago. Dallas cowboys signed Greg hardy despite him being a known wife beater. This poop happens all the time, not all pro athletes are gonna be great people. Not saying I feel great about my favourite team taking him, but somebody was going to.

It’s a bizarre pick, I won’t argue that. And this kid sounds like a total wiener.

But the media and fan reaction to this has been an utter embarrassment, just everyone trying to out-rage each other on Twitter and acting like the Habs just drafted John Wayne Gacy. That sanctimony makes me want to puke.

And yes I have a daughter and yes I would want to kill the guy but I’m also mentally stable enough to understand that the guy’s life wouldn’t be ruined for eternity because of this.

and that missing the draft should be part of his sentence. Why? Not the decision of the judge in the case.

Justice does not happen by the mob from Twitter. Well, it should not.

I had a DUI when I was 16.

That was a criminal offense, I don’t consider myself as a criminal, and that was a huge mistake that I’ll never forget.

I mean this young fella is no bill cosbey.

Jesus, can’t he learn from a dumb mistake??

- pete26

Did you get rewarded right after being charged for a DUI and giving a poopty apology? Did your insurance company say "Hey, he's only 16, let's actually lower his rates for him and that way he'll mature". Or did you need to prove that you can change?
