I think this all comes down to meeting him in
person, along with his family. and if the habs really did their homework, obviously they've also talked to the girl who was involved, and her family as well. perhaps the knowledge they acquired from these interactions brought them to this pick.

- Pat1993

They did that and made that determination in the last two weeks?? Doubtful. Your giving them an awful lot of benefit of the doubt here.

Doesn’t change anything. PROVE that you’ve changed and have made amends. THEN you get your second chance. I doubt this kid learned anything. He probably still thinks he didn’t do anything wrong except that he got caught.

What Mailloux did and what Miller did are completely different stuff though.

Not minimizing what Mailloux did, but jesus christ he didn't torture a handicapped child for years.

What they did tonight was classy, what one employee did years ago obviously was not.
- Karine Hains

What Chicago did tonight seemed like a poorly timed PR ploy to better their image, and honestly it was a bad joke made even worse by the awkwardness of Bergevin's pick that proceeded it.

Not sure if you're up to date, but a recent report from court submissions has come out that detail how the team therapist told the victim it was his fault, how Chicago teammates ridiculed the player, and how executives and pretty much everyone refused to take appropriate action and keep silent. Right now, Chicago spells class with a capital ASS

This is the taking sexual pics and distributing them equivalent of "he should have kept his head up" when a player receives a hit to the head.... Problem is, we're not talking about a game here, we're talking about a person's life and you don't know the woman in question, you are making a ton of assumption... I can tell you that most women would be devastated if pics of them doing that were made public. Unless of course they make their living in the porn industry but that's another story
- Karine Hains

I agree completely it most certainly is devastating to the girl. I think your missing my point, these are adolescents and at such age we all make stupid humiliating discussions. Some more severe then others but nonetheless we make them, all of us. People can change and learn some can’t we will find out how this plays out. I’m taking this as a positive for Montreal and Logan. Hopefully he makes the best of the opportunity in front of him.

That's probably the smartest thing said about it.

It most likely wasn't worth all the drama to take whoever was next on your list instead.

Let's just say that the pressure on him to be a success just got bigger.

Who isn’t calm? I’m simply pointing out the stupid poop some of your fans are spewing to justify a really really dumb move by your team. Any other team does it and you all agree that it’s a stupid move.

I had a DUI when I was 16.

That was a criminal offense, I don’t consider myself as a criminal, and that was a huge mistake that I’ll never forget.

I mean this young fella is no bill cosbey.

Jesus, can’t he learn from a dumb mistake??

- pete26

I think what seems to be bothersome is that the events took place in 2020. you can argue that a guy can learn from his mistakes (which I totally agree with) but he still should suffer some consequences, like not being drafted right away, but in the year after, proving along the way he's matured a bit.

Aucun sens.

Again, show me the learning, show me the changed behaviour, show me the action he took to demonstrate remorse.

Don't show me his PR crafted response.

You don't get there in a few weeks.

When he shows that, then fine. Until then, this is not acceptable.

Wasn’t one of their coaches sharpening his pencil in some rookies’ sharpeners??

And they were allowed to draft??

I guess that’s cool..

Hate to break it to you but from a hockey perspective, This is a 1010 if he pans out. This kid is a stud RD exactly what the doctor order from Montreal’s point of view.

My take on this whole debacle:

Kid made a serious mistake, both personally AND legally. I get that a lot of hockey culture is a, "boys club", but what our pick has done was wrong, illegal, and morally reprehensible.

At the same time, it seems like he may have learned from his error, as he asked not to be drafted, as he felt his actions lacked the maturity and standards the NHL should hold dear.

So I'm torn. He could be a good long term project, given his statements regarding the incident are sincere. MB should have also respected his desire not to be picked, though, as a sort of penance for his transgressions.

The real discussion right now is amongst ourselves. Because, as Habs fans, we were mostly disgusted by Auston Matthews actions towards a female security guard. We labeled him, "Captain Underpants", and wanted him to face real consequences for his actions.

If you ever slagged Auston, but forgive the actions of our pick as, "He's a kid, these things happen...", then you're a hypocrite, as it's no different.

Maybe Logan has learned his lesson. But with our storied franchise who likes to think of ourselves as superior, the Habs made a poor pick today.

I say we remove Matthews and Mailloux from the NHL. No double standards!

C’est crissement pathétique. Bergevin est une solide marde de faire ça avec l’histoire de Chicago au-dessus de la tête.

So, her life is ruined because a few dudes got a 10 second look at a pic that probably didn't even show her face?
