Samberg is 22. It’s quite literally now or never. Don’t Niku him.
- Rexypoo

Devon Toews didn't play in the NHL till he was 24, thought you were a fan of his? i guess he was ruined?

there are planety of examples of players taking a while. Niku has literally never been good in the NHL, like horrible anylitics, did i hope for more from him, yes, but AHL is his ceiling.

Poolman is a 6/7 defenceman. Samberg looked like a top 4 guy coming in as a rookie
- Rexypoo

When did he look like a top 4 Dman? In college playing on Friday and Saturdays against kids? Or during a goofy Covid AHL season?

Not everybody is plug and play, you don’t protect Stanley and trade for Dillon if he’s ready.

Dano proved himself where? 5 teams in 6 years is not exactly the right proving ground.

Please walk us through the missed opportunity that is Marko Dano.

Samberg has never played more than 49 games in a season.

Expectations can be high, hasn’t proved he’s ready.

These are both good acquisitions/ signings. Dillon will pair well with DeMelo and some hard-hitting brawn to the D-corps. Statsny is now more of a depth utility player for just about any of the top three lines. Likely he will play wing on the second line.

Chevy tried several times to get Nate Schmidt first but the guy just refused to come to Winnipeg. It just supports the theory of how difficult a job it is for Chevy vs teams in warm weather or big cities, etc. Good job with Dillon.

Jets did likely not have enough remaining cap to get Hamilton or any high-ticket Dman in free agency with looming potential arbitration with Copp and Pionk and that hole that Statsny just filled. Dillon is the next best thing.

Great leaders find creative ways to overcome obstacles. Perhaps Nate Schmidt did not believe in the Jets vision or did not like something about the systems? Perhaps Nate Schmidt does not get along with the strong leadership group in the locker room? Wheeler has been rumoured to be a bully. There are plenty of reasons outside of calling Winnipeg crap like you are doing for players not wanting to come here.

I remember just 2 years ago Justin Faulk refused to waive his no trade to go to Anaheim. So its not just Winnipeg.

This excuse is also getting extremely tiring as well.

I actually think that one of the worst things that happened is that Demelo was not taken. For if he were, it would have definitely forced Chevy’s hand to bring a big ticket d-man like Hamilton. I think our defense is now set going into next year, unless Chevy does something surprising and trades away Morrissey.

Yes. College level hockey is bigger than junior. It’s literally all men. No 16 and 17 year olds.
Samberg has absolutely smashed it at every level he’s played, and I would argue Covid is the only reason he wasn’t even better in the AHL.
He needs to play now, not later. Peak age waits for no one.

As for Dano? It’s rather simple. Solid production, responsible defence, and strong underlying numbers up until 2019 screamed “top 6 forward”. That’s it

Dano 2015-2019 - 11 goals by any measure a top 6?

Players develop differently. Fact not a feeling.

You play someone when ready not age. To go by age is ridiculous.

College is NOT a grind. The USHL is more of a grind.

Vessey won the Hobey Baker over Connor. It happened, it’s on paper, Vessey is better.

What counts is when they drop the puck at the NHL level. Nothing else

Hard to believe space is wasted on this board for Dano. He's been a journeyman flop on about 4 teams now. If he was any good he would have been played. It's not rocket science. Dano is a bust at every level.

The alchemy of what make a player, the intangibles etc are impossible to measure.

Not sure how some fans think they can look at measureables and know someone’s head and heart.

You nailed it. Btw, jimmy is on his 4th team after screwing Nashville, 354 gàmes, 64g, 56a, 120pts.

KC 305 gms, 131g, 120a, 254 pts so you are right, and your next post is bang as well.

Also, although there is likely a "mean" developmental wise, some players won't fall into the mean devèlopmentally and will be outliers or late bloomers. So, good luck in trying to identify who is peaking at what age with only stats guiding you.

Just like playing sports when youn are a kid, some kids are full grown at an early age and dominate their age group and some kids don't develop or bloom unitl later.

you are making a Gigantic assumption Hamilton would come here. We have not been one of the 5 teams linked to him even though he has permission to talk to anyone. I think it is much more realistic to assume Hamilton has no interest in Winnipeg than it is to assume Chevy could've sweet talked him

Is it possible that Chevy has not even contacted him?

K now do the points and goals per 60.

As for *Vesey winning the Hobey Baker, do you not remember the outrage at the time? Every single person on all social media platforms though Connor deserved to win, and that it was a “lifetime achievement” award for Vesey on his way out

not possible. Chevy has had some sort of contact with Hamilton's agent, JP Barry. He is also the agent for Tyler Myers, Andrew Ladd, Jordy Benn, +++

Chevy gets paid millions to make these contacts, JP Barry gets paid 10s of millions to make the contacts.

not sure where you are going with this... for their careers (from quanthockey):

Vesey is at .76 goals/60 and 1.43 p/60
Connor 1.39 g/60 and 2.6 p/60

Goals/Assists are not the full measure of a hockey player. Can they do it when the chips are down, when tired, injured, shift after shift, etc.?

The idea of using p/60 or g/60 as the measure of value stikes me as a little like declaring Michael (i have gold shoes) Johnson the fastest man alive in 1996 because his split time in the 200 was faster than Bailey in the 100. Different race and considerations.

A great philosopher of our time said it best:

“Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth”

- Mike Tyson

Not everyone is built for the frontlines, some people need to stay behind and tell everyone what works on paper

Player is ready when they are ready. Nothing will ever change that
