fire Dubas.
lost Hyman while keeping the entitled kids.

i hope Leafs will completely tank next seasond and are out of playoff contention by December so we owners will fire Dubas, Shanahan and Keefe -- in order to finally start constructing a team with a winning culture.

I'm surprised that someone who hates the Leafs wants the Leafs to lose.

Better deal than Jones
- Canada Cup

I wonder what Makar would have asked for if the term was 8 years?

10M?

I don’t see how, in one week, he could possibly assess if the kid really was remorseful. I don’t see how, in three days, he could possibly decide that it was in the kid’s best interests to ignore his request to not be drafted.

Assuming the kid is remorseful and wants to learn and put all of this behind him, he had a chance to get through the weekend and put it all behind him and come back again in a year.

Instead, Bergevin put a huge spotlight on him in (frank)ing Montreal where he’s going to be hounded. It’s such a bad move by the Habs.

- Canada Cup

Should the NHL have stepped in and made him ineligible (at his own behest) from being selected in this year's draft?

I kind of think... yes.

Especially in light of the Chicago scandal you'd think the league would be hyper-sensitive to any more "hockey culture is rotten to the core" takes.

They better hope Kubalik doesn't score 90-100pts this year.

But even then, at least one of those Core 4 is a d-man.

Looking like the Oilers are going to wait and sign Zach as a free agent on Wednesday which means a maximum 7 year term. Toronto placed a higher value on the cap savings Edmonton would gain with the 8th year in a sign and trade, than the Oil are willing to pay in a draft pick.

Ffs. Couldn't we have at least asked for a low pick as compensation?

Take a 5th or a 6th and run. Sigh.

A 2nd, 5th and 6th was obviously enough for Dubas this year

It's perhaps the best year to gamble with low picks. I'd even take a 7th if it was offered.

This seems like a wasted opportunity to collect an asset and roll the dice.

All I can think about is my own daughter (who is only 8 at the moment) and how the victim's parents must be trying to handle this situation.

Ugh.

- mjones242

It’s the one thing we hammer home to our daughters every franking day:

Don’t ever, ever, ever let anyone ever take explicit photos of you. Don’t ever send anyone explicit photos of you. They last forever.

So no
- Canada Cup

So... yes.

Kerfoot is a weird tweener player. He's not good enough to be 3C and he isn't ideal for a Top 6 W. He also makes too much.

Rielly could walk at the end of this year.

So... yes.

Also, making other trades and deals to help this lineup isn't mutually exclusive to my suggestion.

So... yes.

But hey, it's so much fun to just sit on your hands safely and shoot down every trade scenario, ain't it? This lineup, beyond some minor tweaking, is optimized as much as it possibly can be.

I’m saying no it’s not happening, not arguing with your logic. Each expensive signing makes it less likely.

This.

It's hard to know how sincere the kid's renouncing of this year's draft was or if it was simply a calculated move for damage control. I can't know what's in this kid's heart but the fact the Habs were like, "(frank) all that" is ironic to the max.

I'll admit I didn't know anything him until I woke up this morning (I went to a pub last night and deliberately tuned myself out of sports) but from the little I've read, I think it's pretty (frank)ed up that he hasn't apologized directly to the victim. If that's true, wtf.

At the end of the day, I hope there's a happy ending (especially) for the victim and for Logan. (frank) the Habs though.

- mjones242

I am not sure why anyone cares if he was sincere. At his age, he knows right from wrong. He is a douchebag, and being drafted just validated his douchbaggery. If he is the type of person who could learn and change, rewarding his bad behaviour won't help.

Yep. You just hope the messages will sink in.

I don't know the full details but I think the content was taken without her knowledge so it was at least partly out of her control. So the question then becomes: how do you ensure your own safety and that your consent is always held with the utmost respect and care?

The flip side of this equation is that I'm raising a son (he's only 3) and we will have to impress upon him consent, the well-being of partners being sacred, and always making sure that he doesn't put himself or his partner in a compromising scenario.

Easy stuff being a parent, eh?

Montreal proved me wrong.

Oh, trust me, I don't think it's happening either. Fun to speculate though.

Ultimately, Doguie is not your typical hockey dude-bro so who knows what he values for the next phase of his career? Maybe he holds out for 10Mx7? Maybe he signs a team-friendly deal of 8Mx7 to be with a contender that has some nice local museums?

And then there's the flipside of replacing Kerfoot and getting a good return for Rielly.

I give it a 5% chance of happening. (I may have missed a decimal point)

Well, sincerity would be evidence that he's not a serial sex-abusing sociopath and that he can forge a path forward where he becomes a model citizen.

He's 18 and I think he deserves a chance at redemption if there is sincerity.

But he asked to not be drafted and he shouldn't have been drafted. Exile for at least a year seems to be a reasonable starting point. The Habs said (frank) that.

I don't know what the right answer is here beyond that there needs to be some measure of time before he's afforded that second chance. There needs to be some measure that he can be vetted by that shows that he is sincere and can make amends.

Having said that, part of me is right there with you -- (frank) this guy and he can go to hell for all I care.
