I don’t see how, in one week, he could possibly assess if the kid really was remorseful. I don’t see how, in three days, he could possibly decide that it was in the kid’s best interests to ignore his request to not be drafted.

Assuming the kid is remorseful and wants to learn and put all of this behind him, he had a chance to get through the weekend and put it all behind him and come back again in a year.

Instead, Bergevin put a huge spotlight on him in (frank)ing Montreal where he’s going to be hounded. It’s such a bad move by the Habs.

It was a good pick by the Habs even if it pissed off some people. Kid made a terrible mistake doing an immature and fairly common thing. Did it ruin the young woman's life? - probably not unless she lets it, he needs to grow up and she needs to move on. Did Craig McTavish murder someone while drunk driving and walk out of jail a year later into an NHL job?

Sabres probably be better then us by then.

The thing that makes me uneasy is that we aren’t hearing the kid’s side of the story regarding the apology.

If he really did make further attempts to apologize and was rebuffed, what exactly does sitting out a year accomplish?

This week has sucked as a Leafs fan.

Losing players.

No Cap for any trades.

No picks in the draft.

Sitting on the sidelines while other teams make moves while being first round losers year after year, sucks.

Really pissed with this Leafs team and GM, especially after his "stand pat, I have confidence in the core because I have to, I created the mess" presser.

Seems like one day in retrospect this might be the start of one of the worst Leafs eras. I know the Leafs been losing forever but seems different now. The team is now sucking with top tier talent that are all probably gone in 4-5 years, at the same time, the Leafs aren't replenishing shiit.

This smells like it could get bad, really fu3king bad. Ya, this sucks.



PS....when did OEL become bad? Thought Leafs fans wanted him forever but now that he's a Canuck he sucks and his contract is horrible???

I know nothing about this kid, but that phrase just strikes me as odd.

It sounds like the subsequent attempts were all through 3rd parties but I don't really know if he personally attempted to contact her again through further texts, emails, phone calls, or not.

It's pretty clear the victim is in a living hell right now and was exposed to adult men (he plays for a Men's team not a Junior team) in a very demeaning (to say the very least) manner. Does she want all of this attention? Does she want to be known as "that girl who that hockey player shared explicit sexual content without her consent" forever? Does she want to ever look at him again or hear his voice?

I don't know.

It's horrible in every possible respect and I wonder if she even knows what could possibly make this situation "better". Obviously, what he's done so far hasn't met her requirements and maybe he doesn't know how or what she precisely needs or how to deliver it.

I don't know.

All I know is that Montreal should not have selected this player. MB knowingly did it. He had discussions with MTL brass and told them he was going to do it if the "opportunity" presented itself. MTL brass went along with it and they walked through the repercussions of this pick and the consequences knowing full well the media scrutiny and the negative press was going to be tremendous.

They still made the pick in light of the recent Chicago scandal.

They picked this player and possibly subverted whatever redemption arc he was hoping to play (whether sincere or not).

It's just (frank)ed on every front.

All I can think about is my own daughter (who is only 8 at the moment) and how the victim's parents must be trying to handle this situation.

Last two or three years and was quite bad last year. Time on ice reduced, faced easiest lines and did badly.

The OEL hate is pretty amusing. He may be slightly overpaid at his new AAV but he can still hockey.

Totally agreed with the Leafs so far this weekend though. But what do you expect when you only have 3 picks, barely any prospects worth mentioning in the system, and cap hell?

Dubas needs to do something of note beyond minor tinkering... please?
