I thought not having a 1st was the worst thing in the world.
Montreal proved me wrong.

What an embarrassment. 🤦🏼‍♂️

- .HOHO.

There's so many things worse than not having a first. Like having a first, losing the lottery after tanking to a team that's won it several times already, watching them draft the best player since Crosby, then continuing to suck rhino wang until the franchise centre you got by tanking demands a trade.

This ain't bad.

Also they barely made the playoffs and got swept and blown out in the first round by a team that got swept in the next round, right? We should bet everything on a repeat because we can safely say it's a lock based on those past results.

So you’re saying you expect a more sustainable Chinese fiscal policy through the next 18 months.

I don't think it's about second chances.

I think the kid hit it when he was like woah, at the very least this is a massive issue... It's disgusting, I'm not ready to be drafted in the NHL spotlight. I need to take a year and learn myself, hopefully make myself credible some day and maybe earn my place.

And then the Habs be like nah (frank) all that.

There is some irony in him being drafted without his consent though.

- joel878

This.

It's hard to know how sincere the kid's renouncing of this year's draft was or if it was simply a calculated move for damage control. I can't know what's in this kid's heart but the fact the Habs were like, "(frank) all that" is ironic to the max.

I'll admit I didn't know anything him until I woke up this morning (I went to a pub last night and deliberately tuned myself out of sports) but from the little I've read, I think it's pretty (frank)ed up that he hasn't apologized directly to the victim. If that's true, wtf.

At the end of the day, I hope there's a happy ending (especially) for the victim and for Logan. (frank) the Habs though.

The Swedish criminal justice system dealt with him. It is an offence to share photos like that. He was fined.

He said he (frank)ed up and wasn’t ready to be drafted. Bergevin said (frank) you.

- Canada Cup

Montreal probably informed him ahead of time that they may select him.

GM's like Bergevin are former players. So they once were young and getting away with similar things. Or even worse things. It's much harder for an entitled kid to get away with crap now.

These kids are spoiled from a young age and grow up being told how great and special they are. So it's only natural for them to develop a God complex. It doesn't justify their actions. And not all of these kids are bad. They're mostly good. Unfortunately it's the bad ones which stand out.

The real failure are the former players like Bergevin sweeping everything under the rug and hoping the issues disappear. Look at all those current and former Chicago guys playing dumb 11 years later. "Uh I don't remember that happening."

Basically if you are good at hockey we'll overlook your past mistakes. If you suck then we'll use it to make you disappear. It's talent above all else. Always has been. Always will be.

He has apologized.

The victim felt it wasn’t sincere enough.

And there was a weird phrasing of something the victim said that led me to believe he had made further attempts to apologize. Lemme see if I can find it.

He said “I haven’t earned the right” to be drafted on the 20th and Montreal drafted him on the 23rd. That’s pretty definitive.

From an article in the Athletic:

The woman said she asked that Mailloux send her a sincere apology in written form because she did not want to meet with him in person. She said she received “a text that was no longer than three sentences.”

“All I wanted was a heartfelt apology for his behavior,” the woman wrote to The Athletic.

The woman felt that Mailloux’s subsequent attempts to apologize were done at the behest of team officials and the court. SK Lejon’s hockey director, Lars Westermark, has not responded to calls and text messages when asked for comment about how the club handled the situation (Westermark was also, at the time, the chief of area police).

This is what I was getting at with my post above: it doesn't sound like his attempts at an apology were directly to her.

She hasn't received a heartfelt apology. How (frank)ing difficult is that to give?

It sounds like these apologies were all through officials and not directly from Logan to the victim.

As per the 3 sentence txt message he sent, that's absurdly lacking.

Who wants to bet that Dubas flips the 2nd for a 3rd and a 4th?

But what are “subsequent attempts”?

I know nothing about this kid, but that phrase just strikes me as odd.

What prevented him from making another apology?

The Leafs are back to their draft-schmaft culture.

It didn’t work with no salary cap, and it has no hope of working now.

We basically have two defencemen and one winger in the system. That’s it.

Yup, Dubas won't make any changes and we'll be stuck watching a replay of the past 4 years. Thankfully, he'll get fired if that happens. Just sucks that us as fans have to waste another year for something drastic to potentially happen.

Who?

There are a lot more than that. You're obviously missing one of amirov or Robertson and clearly the finish dman that was named dman of the wjc

Might not happen, Dubas said he looks at last draft and this one and how they will be adding 15 players in the past year and a bit during his press conference.

I do hope that he does trade down and get some more lottery tickets. This draft is a crapshoot with players not having full seasons.
