Maybe just maybe Chuck isn’t done. Their D is a hell of a lot better. While I think Jakes time here shouldn’t be viewed in the negative I think both him and the Flyers needed a change. I like Atkinson. He a better all around player, although Jakes offence is superior. I never liked the fact that Jake always picked and chose when he wanted to buy in defensively. That is such a detriment to the team when your viewed as a leader. The young guys see that. - landros 2
Yea. Also with the few moves he made he got players. Who have performed well in the playoffs. Minus Risto. But he has played well in other big games internationally. |

For the goalies I agree. Won’t be the top two fa.
My target would be Ullmark. I would offer 3x2.5. Not sure what he made this past year. hart gets 2x2. Or 3 x 2.5-2.8.
After I see any of mrazek bernier raanta halak. I think Anderson (was) and dubnyk are washed. |

Trade for Reinhart/sign Hyman. Let Krejci walk. Try adding Saad on LW. Let Hall go.
Something like that. Good D if healthy, great 1st line, great pp. But nothing after that 1st line. Gets killed year after year in playoffs.
@wcorvette: yeah, I agree completely Lou has some devious plan up his butt. But Tarasenko is not a Lou like move. - PT21
As for Lou yeah. Like getting ov to sign to play for Trotz again. (Yes that one is highly doubtful). |

Did you see the return? Who cares if coots wants to return. I bet he would’ve gotten close to that package. - Stayin alive
Why the hell would you trade coots? If we just traded for 3 players to win now, trading coots hurts us more than it helps. |
|
|
|
I think they would have gotten more. The time to think about trading Coots is the deadline. The flyers would have to be having another disappointing season and any team who is in the plAyoffs, thinks they have any shot at the cup will want Coots. Then add in his current contract and bam, he is the missing piece for some, most would think he is. Hell I would retain half and get more assets if I could.
If the flyers are playing really well, he remains your best player
They have missed nothing by not trading him so far - wcorvette
His value was highest before the draft. Teams that took centers might not want to commit to coots now cap money is highest it’s gonna be now. Once Fa opens next week the money will dry up plus pay now big price you have coots for the whole year opposed as a few weeks plus playoffs |

If we are trying to win now, why would we trade coots? - Richieattack18
If philly thinks Ellis /risto/cam adds and jettison a few players makes them cup contenders that laughable. Yes we got better. Possibly a playoff team. Nowhere near a cup contender but can be argued closer than a few days ago which is valid.
IMO there’s zero chance winning cup next year with coots in last year of deal.
And even worse chance of blow cap flexibility by resigning him and risto to term/$

Some rando was saying Gabe Landaskog (too lazy to look up spelling) was in the Philadelphia area today. Doubt it's TRUE, but fun to think about |

This. At this point in time, the moves Fletch made are totally incompatible with trading Coots. - daddytc
Why? Ellis signed 6 more years. If risto is resigned that’s for the future also. If any believes these moves were an all on for next season they are blind. As this team sits there’s zero chance they contend for cup next year. Debatable if they even make playoffs. Laughable actually.
The changes were necessary but it’s just the beginning. Yes they are probably better than last season but that’s not setting the bar too high.
People need to stop thinking in terms of just next season. |

Sure, but why trade him? Even with a 0% chance to win the cup, teams dont dump their best players for the hell of it. |

Also it’s not just dropping the player for the hell of it. It’s asset management. Let someone sign 30 year coots to that big term big $ deal. |

so you want to trade Couts because he is 28? Maybe we can get mckinnon when his contract is up in 2 years, but he'll be 28 when that season starts, it that too old to sign mckinnon?

Based on the trade value of what we have seen so far, imagine if we had done the following:
1. Traded for Reinhardt (who was stellar as center on a weak team this year) and give up what we did and a prospect goalie like Sandstrom/Ustimenko (to make it similar to BUF return) So, Reinhardt for 1st,2nd,Hagg, Utimenko >> what they got.
2. Traded Couts to Boston for 2021 and 2022 1sts or to Avs for Newhook +2021st. We would get those prices easily.
3. Done the Voracek and Ghost trades. Kept Myers.
4. Given Dougie 1 m more than what I hear he is asking (given him 9.5 instead of 8.5)
Our first line for future would be Bee-Reinhardt-TK
Our first pairing for the future would be Provy-Dougie.
The oldest player in those 5 names is 28. The Reinhardt extension would cost less than Couts extension. Myers+Dougie cost =< Risto+Ellis cost.
You either give Myers 1 more shot or you hire a vet for 1 year. If neither works, sign a guy next year. And you have either 2 1sts, 1 in a deep draft, or your future 2nd/3rd line center in Newhook, possibly even your first, and another 1st.
Which combination is more aligned with the youth and trajectory of the club for building a contender? |

I don’t think you trade coots. Think he’s your captain you build around. I could see him taking a sweetheart deal if we make a few more moves and Carter hart proves he’s legit… a lot of this all rides on Carter |

Per usual
His bday is in December. He will be 29 this season
30. 30 30 30 30 30 30 in the first year of his new contract.
I don’t think I can make that any clearer |
