Can’t believe people are picking apart the Jake trade. Oh wait, it’s this place. I totally can.

Jake had 10 years here. They didn’t get it done and the leadership group was sorely in need of change. If not now, when exactly.

Powerplay:

Cam; 1 goal 9 points
Voracek 0 goals 8 points

Shorthand:
Cam 4 goals
Voracek 0 goals

Shorthanded career;
Cam 16 goals
Voracek 0 goals

Different players. Cam more of an all-around game. Cam extra year on contract but lower cap hit which is attractive to Flyers along with team chemistry change.

Age is just 2 months different.

- Captain_Ahab

Cam makes us harder to play against. I like the trade

Well, we will agree to disagree. I am not going to scour the archives for it.

I certainly remember you being against signing either, and preferring Ekblad, Larsson, Ellis, Savard, I think in that order.

From what I have found and read the kid can skate he has a very good shot and can score goals.
He has the skills to be a 1st line winger but he has to progress and work on his game to reach that ceiling.
For a second round pick what more can you ask for?

- bird_dog_pa

Some people just don’t want to be positive today. The Flyers get their RHD second pair defenseman in Ristolainen, a kid in the second with a first round grade, and for many, a locker room shake up by trading Jake with no assets required. Seriously, you can’t please some . Fletcher has accomplished his obvious goal of re-making this roster.

Fans were demanding a change, so they got one. Jake had a nice run but in the end the team hasn't won squat during his tenure. Cannot say it was his fault. Atkinson provides a different look. Neither guy is likely the difference. Its a completely different team. Throw the dice and see what happens. We must hope York is tge real deal, Farabee continues to develop, and Frost provides offense...none of that matters unless Hart returns to Form

Yes, I wanted two top 4 defenseman instead of 1 top pairing defenseman. I wanted Ekholm or Ellis from Nashville, and then I wanted Fletcher to sign either Larsson or Savard. I also wanted Myers and Ghost gone. So I got mostly what I asked for, and am happy to RR in place of Larsson or Savard. All in all I am a very, very happy Flyers fan today. I think the Flyers made a set of tremendous moves for the team, and drafted 1st round talent in the 2nd round. Honestly, what is not to like.

BTW, Florida just gave a first round pick in next year's draft (which is thought to be a better draft than this year) to Buffalo for Reinhart. Funny how I don't see anyone trashing Florida for this move! And they shouldn't, this was a great trade for Florida.

On paper and if Atkinson can regain his goal scoring touch, I agree with you. However can't help but think that Atkinson seeming to be in decline as a player was a part of why Columbus made this deal. If he can score, this will be a good deal for the Flyers as they needed to tweak the playmaker/shooter mix.

This could turn out like Hartsy for Umberger. We might have gotten the Umberger end again... and the longer contract.

There are 3 more deals to be made and the cap hits of the RFA signings of Sanheim and Hart will be part of it

One more experienced center for the bottom 6.. I am at a loss for that

One more veteran D.. if you are going all in as they seem to have, you cannot have Morin as the 7th D with callups from developing players or veteran AHL players. Expect him to be in the AHL like they did with Pouilot Or it could be a Bogosian type of player

The other goalie-- with all the maneuvering it seems like Carolina will have someone without a seat..

Yep they are going to be tight to the cap unless they have a lot of YUTS active.
Cue the Danny Devito pix with Marisa Tomei..

Doesn't seem like CF is leaving anything to chance. You don't make all these win now moves and then leave a huge unknown in net w/ Hart. He's gonna go out and grab an established starting goaltender. CF is GMing for his life right now.

Well said.

There is some logic to this trade, though frankly, 80% of even this trade is just juggling pieces. You don't get a player like Atkinson, who is nowhere near the player he used to be, for 4 years with a modified NTC if you care about the future one bit.

- PT21

I have to disagree a bit. Depending what happens ona year or 2 cam cap # isn’t as prohibited as jakes and is movable. It’s a contract a team can carry for that 3/4 year if wanted too. For cup type run secondary player. There’s movable value with cam. Jake there’s really not

Pay attention to Reinhardt's stats (on a bad team) with injured Eichel, ineffective Hall and the corpse of Skinner, and you will see why.

This is the best trade I have seen so far. Florida was competitive with Tampa without their best Dman. They desperately need 2nd line scoring. If they decide to spend money for once, they should resign him. I am not sure however how much that franchise wants to win.

Regarding Buffalo, I would prefer not to be cynical. This is the right thing for them to do. I commend them for not changing course just because they have gone the same way for a while. I just hope they are more judicious in the future contracts they give out.

Fair enuff. I accept what you are saying. Somewhat moveable, and he should do ok here stat wise.

Spot on. At some point you reach the apex and it's time to hit the refresh button . He gave it his best and they couldn't get it done. No hard feelings.

Slightly older? Wow, by 2 whole months!! Worse player? Guess we can agree to disagree. He's a better player as he goes to the dirty areas and is more of a scorer. He will actually throw a check and he kills penalties. He's also known as a leader with a no quit attitude and you mention term, but fail to mention that the Flyers are actually saving 3 mil in cap space. I really think there is nothing to not like about this trade. Thanks!

I think CF will go higher end than that... Grubauer, Rask, MAF, somebody like that.

I doubt CF views it as Hart's net anymore.

I definitely believes it’s still Harts net. Kid is what 23? The team around him was atrocious. Wasn’t all on him. Better team play can make a better goalie as well.
