Do you think any of that is the system Tort ran?
- JW98FlyerFan

He was putting up strong totals previously under Tortorella. I do think it could possibly be due to the talent he was surrounded by.

Seem angry. Also why the edit?

What is there to be angry about? How does one tell if another is angry by a simple post?

I think you are wrong. As an all around player, Atkinson is the better player. If he regains his goal scoring, this will be a good deal. He'll be playing with better players and puck distributors than he was in Columbus.
- MJL

Yes, he's faster, better defensively and agree if he regains his scoring touch will be a much better player on the PP than Jake was. Given the contract Jake had, this was a very good swap.

Well said.

There is some logic to this trade, though frankly, 80% of even this trade is just juggling pieces. You don't get a player like Atkinson, who is nowhere near the player he used to be, for 4 years with a modified NTC if you care about the future one bit.

- PT21

They didn't give up the future to get him. You aren't going to move Voracek without taking salary and term back.

Atkinson is a slightly older, smaller, and considerably worse player than Voracek, with more term remaining

I still think Philly did OK

- AxlRose91

I do not know Atkinson's game all that well tbh, but to say he is a "considerably worse player than Voracek" seems hyperbolic.

I don't know that he will be better on the PP than Voracek but he's a shooter compared to a playmaker. Don't know how much faster he is. Voracek moves pretty good so the difference there isn't much.

What name calling is that? You must suck at cards.

If Cam doesn't work out, his cap hit is easier to buy out as well...Assuming he is terrible and they buy him out next year, They gain 2.3M over the remaining 3 years of the contract and it costs 1.7M for the following 3 when the league should be out of the flat cap period. Jake's was horrible to buy out at any point. Just something to consider, but I do like the trade overall as if gives CF more flexibility.

And that right there is a huge reason this trade happened. This team has needed a shoot first player since....Danny Briere? Am I missing someone?

I mean, it's just time to move on. Try something else. Get someone else in there. Even if you aren't sold on the trade and what it's impact will be, for god sakes give me ANYONE else out there that wants to shoot the puck.

Powerplay:

Cam; 1 goal 9 points
Voracek 0 goals 8 points

Shorthand:
Cam 4 goals
Voracek 0 goals

Shorthanded career;
Cam 16 goals
Voracek 0 goals

Different players. Cam more of an all-around game. Cam extra year on contract but lower cap hit which is attractive to Flyers along with team chemistry change.

Age is just 2 months different.

I have been against signing Jones or Hamilton from the very beginning, because the price tag would be too high. I never thought either player would sign for less than $8M!
- jd250

Well, we will agree to disagree. I am not going to scour the archives for it.

I certainly remember you being against signing either, and preferring Ekblad, Larsson, Ellis, Savard, I think in that order.

Point per game

Voracek
18/19 .846
19/20 .846
20/21 .811

Atkinson
18/19 .862
19/20 .590
20/21 .607

Can you see the difference? If we look at Atkinson's past scoring strength, which is goals scored, his decline is even sharper.

- MJL

Time will tell. But I think these stats are misleading. One season he only played 44 games. Then was a ppg player in the playoffs. This year the whole team struggled

1. older by 2 whole months. Huge.
2. Smaller. Yes. What good is size when one doesnt use it?
3. Is it it about becoming a better team or having a "better" player? Will take what cam brings over jake all day.

Cam Atkinson said he is best friends with Scott Hartnell, played with Hayes at Boston College and is good friends with JVR. Also said he prides himself on his PK work, which may explain why his goals scored has gone down the last few seasons. He was also an alternate captain, so another player like Ellis that will change the leadership voices on this team! Sounds excited and I think will fit well with this group.

Agree to disagree, I suppose

I do think it’s time for ppl to realize that Atkinson’s 40 goal season was an anomaly, instead of waiting for him to “regain his goal scoring”

It will be interesting to see how everyone gels...I think there is a good mix of kids to compete for positions, and some things we were lacking. Chuck didn't clean the cupboard out either. Sad to see some of the guys go, as I think they all had potential, but maybe will get a chance in a new environment. Risto has the most intrigue to me. Seeing him play in a 3/4 role and not have to eat the heavy minutes could really turn out to be a boon from the Flyers. If they keep Sam as a #7 and he continues to develop, there might be a good mix here on the backend...I am more hopeful about this upcoming season than i was when it ended...

Slightly older? Wow, by 2 whole months!! Worse player? Guess we can agree to disagree. He's a better player as he goes to the dirty areas and is more of a scorer. He will actually throw a check and he kills penalties. He's also known as a leader with a no quit attitude and you mention term, but fail to mention that the Flyers are actually saving 3 mil in cap space. I really think there is nothing to not like about this trade. Thanks!

Flyers draft Brian Zanetti in the 4th round, a 6’2”, 172lb defense man, played for HC Lugano U-20 Elite in Switzerland for the 2020-21 season. Noted to have a high hockey IQ and be a good 2-way defenseman.
