I don’t really understand the trade for Columbus. Oh well. Not our problem.

1 less year on term. Only reason. Unless they flip him

All the picks, they are going rebuild and jake gives credibility to the lineup. Like him or not, jake is a top point producing wing

Not a bad move considering they didn’t get up other assets.

Everything I know about Tuomaala and reading about him is, maybe a coincidence, he plays like a bigger Atkinson.

MBFlyerfan just posted a profile on Tuomaala on page 51 at the bottom of the page. Not very encouraging. I'll stay positive and hope he surprises me though.

The fact I don't have to see Voracek float around or give up when the team is down anymore outweighs how many points he gets for me.

From what I have found and read the kid can skate he has a very good shot and can score goals.
He has the skills to be a 1st line winger but he has to progress and work on his game to reach that ceiling.
For a second round pick what more can you ask for?

Yeah that's about what I have seen.

Mike Morreale - NHL.com - July 12th: "Tuomaala (5-10, 174) is an energy-type forward with good speed, quickness and puck control."

Eetu Siltanen - Dobber Prospects - July 7th: "He’s a shoot-first player and has a really quick and dangerous wrist shot. He’s a fast skater with good acceleration and possesses solid, if unspectacular, puck skills."

Scott Wheeler - The Atheletic - June 22nd: "When he plays an up-tempo, energizing game, he’s very effective. His skill makes him a lot of fun to watch when he’s surrounded by talented players, too (as was the case at U18s)."

Steve Kournianos - The Draft Analyst - May 24th: "A quick sniper who plays a lot heavier than his measurements may indicate, Tuomaala teamed up with fellow winger Ville Koivunento to lead Karpat U20 to within one game of the SM-Sarja championship."

Sam Cosentino - Sportsnet - May 12th: "A short, scoreless audition in the Liiga notwithstanding, the smallish, energetic forward is a threat from the blue line in."

Mike G. Morreale - NHL.com - Apr. 23rd: "Tuomaala is an energy-type forward with good speed, quickness and puck control. The 18-year-old has good offensive skills, including a hard, accurate shot."

Eetu Siltanen - Dobber Prospects - Mar. 8: "He’s an excellent skater and snipes the puck hard and accurate .. His defensive effort has been a bit worrying and he looks a bit selfish – like every sniper – from time to time but as he has really high upside, he shouldn’t drop too far."

Tony Ferrari - Dobber Prospects - Feb. 22nd: "He is a volume shooter who doesn’t always take advantage of the tools that he possesses to their fullest extent. Tuomaala has the ability to puck handle by defenders and use his speed and agility to dash through traffic but he often seems as if he wants to hide that part of his game."

its a great move for you guys. atkinson is one of the better guys at blending sandpaper and actual ability to play the game. sounds like he will bust his ass there. may not hit the point totals of jake, but will bring more energy, better two way play, and score more goals. getting out of jakes deal without sending any futures is amazing in and of itself.

i dont think risto is all that good, but when you start adding these things together, its crazy just how much CF was able to rearrange things in a single offseason that isnt halfway over. even if you're in the camp that things they shouldnt be going for it as much as they are over a long term approach, the sheer level of change in such a short period of time is remarkable.

does Atkinson blindly throw the puck east/west under no pressure to no one in particular?

Here is video of Samu in the U16 Finland vs Sweden. His shifts. Scores about 4 goals.

He is number 24.

What you want to see at this age group is a player that separates himself from the other players with his skating and skills. He does that very well. His skating stands out. He will be in the NHL.

They need someone to be a playmaker to play with Laine is my guess.

When Jake applies himself he's very effective. Unfortunately he rarely does.

Didn't Atkinson have a falling out with Torts a few years ago? I recall he was benched in a high profile playoff game.

Torts will have a field day with Jake.

i need to sprinkle in some non-troll posts from time to time, although you guys troll yourselves better than i ever could.

eh. I dont think you guys are going to be a title contender and i have accepted that the pens time as a legit option is basically over as well. i just want the crosby/malkin window to end with as many years of respectability as they have left. it may no longer be a prized dog but it gave good years and now i just want to savor the last few of them rather than see it be crippled and need to be put down. id rather push back the inevitable rebuild than force a trade of malkin or letang or whatever. its gonna suck anyway so no sense in rushing it. its frustrating because i do think they could be a piece or two away from still being one of the better teams after the top one or two or so, but they really dont have the flexibility or assets to get there. you can only go all in for so long until the wallet gets empty.

that being said, if you meant specifically flyers/pens matchups, oh yeah. the games will still be crucial because theyll both be in that playoff mix. Atkinson will be a pain in the ass to play against. Risto is already a guy i hated so having him for the flyers will be fun.

My first thought was just the rival matchup, but specifically Risto. Knowing 1 Penguin fan already hates him gets me extra excited.

Cam brings a much needed diff skill set and attitude. They will be a better team because of it. This was a good trade.
- hello it's me 2050

Agree. Good one as the others cost some assets. And created a little more cap space.

I've always appreciated his passion (when it's shown). Otherwise, the dude worked in the same place for 10 years and could not put this franchise even close to "over the hump".

I've worked at places for three years and got bored, or disinterested, or whatever. I would assume it applies the same for some of these guys. I hope Jake has impact in Columbus, but it was FAR past time to move on from him. Really excited for Atkinson to come here and pot some beauties.

Half of that has nothing to do with Ristolainen. Why must we clump the two?
- Pelle31Forever

Without moving ghost there is no cap space to make the rr deal -- they are interwined
