im happy, we got rid of picks, which is a gamble for proven talent. our 1st rounder stings, but it will be 3-5 years before they contribute anyw .ayIt cost a couple picks and our 3 worst players from last year to have a very much improved D. This will also help our forwards immensely. Im looking forward to next year. MAybe chuck even has another move in the works. Thatd be so awesome

The Flyers are done on defense and Fletcher did a GREAT job filling the 2 gaping holes that were there. I don't know what the rest of you are watching, but anyone that thinks the Flyers gave up too much for Risto is delusional. This is not a deep draft with generational talent, so outside of the top 5 or 6 picks, the player selected at 13 is going to be at best a Tier 2 prospect. A second round pick is just that, a second round pick. And Hagg is a marginal NHL defenseman, a bottom pairing guy at best. The Flyers in return got a legitimate top 4 defenseman that can hit, cover, skate, and score points, and most likely will sign him to his next deal. This was a good trade by Fletcher, no ands, ifs, or buts about it!

Meanwhile Chicago just gave up the farm for Seth Jones, and then signed him to a ridiculous 8 year $76M contract. Seth Jones is not a great defenseman, not offensively nor defensively. He is not worth this type of contract, and on top of it all he is fraud for stating that he wanted to test out free agency when all he really wanted to do apparently is find a sucker organization that would pay him over the top money and allow him to play with his brother. I would have much preferred with Fletcher did so far than to trade and sign this guy.

GOOD JOB CF!

Your buddies versus the younger analytics crowd? Polarizing? That makes it sound like opinion is evenly divided or close or has an age bias.

Here is Reddit reaction: https://www.reddit.com/r/...erall_a_2023_2nd_rd_pick/

Here is HFboards:
https://hfboards.mandator...3-2nd-round-pick.2835484/

Here is Wyshniski: (A for Sabres, C- for Flyers).
https://africa.espn.com/n...rs-first-round-draft-pick

Athletic has 2 grades: A+ for Sabres in each, and F- and J for the Flyers.

Risto has largely played the role that Amac had on the Flyers in his later years, except Amac was slower, softer, but a lot better positionally.

Now imagine if someone gave you a 1st, 2nd and a serviceable 6/7D with a cheap contract to take Amac off your hands where you would have been delighted to give him away for free? That's how Sabres fans feel.

- PT21

Two idiots from the Athletic?…that went to journalism school…ok…lol…I like the player. Is he a stud? No. Is he a solid 2nd pair d…I think he will be. Time will tell. Sabres fans have a right to be pissed….I think Risto, Eichel and Reinhardt will all gave greater success after leaving Buffalo….it might not be the players….it might just be that poop show in Buffalo….we’ll see…I guess that’s all I got. If I hated the player I’d say so, but I like both guys Fletch has brought in so far. Please let’s not talk about Amac…they are totally different players, different skill set…different intangibles. If Risto plays that bad I will gladly admit I was wrong.

If the Flyers are in win now mode. Place Jake on ltir and sign someone else . Jake comes back for the playoffs. Cap issues solved. Tampa just did it so why not?

Ristolainen is gonna have to improve his overall numbers to get an increase in the that range from his last contract. This next year is crucial for him.

I don’t know….apparently Sanheim is getting a raise and his numbers were atrocious.

I think the only way he won’t resign is if the flyers are not good. If they are good, he resigns. If they are not they flip him

He's a RH mobile and physical defenseman who can put up points. He hits the market, he'll get a raise. He has the leverage.

At least coronato was taken one ahead of our pick.. I would have been sick of we could have had him. I'd still take a swing at raty though... we needed a home run after our nopa dud

I like both moves on D…I really like Jones, but those #s are high. The price to pay for these upgrades are what they are. I think we over paid for Risto, but in the end if he plays well no one will care. Ellis is a legit top pair d man. Your going to have to pay for that….I hope there’s more but unless it’s Jake or JVR moving I’m not sure what else substantial they can do.
