Everyone is pushing to dump jvr and Jake- if you do what do you replace them with. Cap hits are big but they are still scoring forwards.
Giving anymore picks and prospects away to get rid of one of these guys is not smart unless FA delivers a top 6 forward. - MrPerfect316
addition by subtraction for jake, change the jake culture going on with their lack of compete last year. |

Bill,
If Nathan Schmidt is available what do you think it would take for the Flyers to acquire him? Would it be much more than the 3rd it cost Vancouver to acquire him last year? This is assuming the Flyers took on his contract term and salary. |

But Fletcher stated this is not going to happen. He will not use the 13th pick to dump salary. I am fine with that also, since there are going to be good players there at 13 that other teams may want. - jd250
That's my point. It's not gonna happen.

Bill, how do you know this? This is exactly what I read from their draft and predicted yesterday on your blog but until the draft day trades and UFA period was over, I was just speculating, of course. - PT21
I thought I read somewhere that Francis said it. I'll see if I can find it.
Edit: I could not be more wrong lol https://www.prohockeyrumo...ight-to-spend-to-cap.html
That said, I agree with you that draft day indicated otherwise. But as you also said, we shall see when the dust settles. |

no chance i'd give the first and one of the better prospects the flyers have to dump jake or jvr. rather keep them both. - Ftown19125
Yup. The 2nd + 7th to get rid of Ghost's contract was already too damned high. |

youd rather have kept him? IF thats the case, we should tank until ghost jvr and jakes contracts are off the books. Then go full reset.

Why would you get rid of Ghost just to go out and trade for Schmidt? He has some of the same defensive limitations and he's on a longer, more expensive contract.

It was rumored they were interested. Just seeing what it would cost. Schmidt is a better defender than Ghost. But I would not take on the contract either.

I assume Schmidt probably has negative trade value too at this point |

At this point its probably safe to say JVR an d Voracek are staying. Unless there is some big trade with a lot of moving pieces I dont see them moving.
Maybe Seattle strikes out on getting GMs to pay them to take salary and strike out of FA. Francis might be more open to taking JVR in a hockey deal rather than cap dump. |

With what looks like a lot of unknowns with a lot of this draft, would anyone be disappointed if the flyers were able to turn the 14 pick into the 2 Minnesota picks? Get 22 and 26 I believe. Starting to think dropping back or even getting maybe a 2022 first rounder where you possibly get a full year of eyes on players to scout. |

I am interested to see what Detroit does. They have so many players to sign . Stevie Y is pretty crafty, could they be a partner for JVR or even a Braun / Haag.
Possibly the Ducks for a JVR plus one of the mentioned Dman for upcoming UFA Manson.
Perhaps Manson would get more at deadline, but their roster seems to be pretty bare.
Would the Devils have possible interest in a JVR? I think there is a deal somewhere for Fletcher involving these players. Jake would be great, but the way things are looking he does seem to be unmovable . - 3flyerkids
Stop with the JVR stuff..no one wants JVR at 7M for 2 yrs...Flyers will lose any deal with JVR as they will have to retain salary. |

so if you are a FA would you sign in Seattle? I think they are going to be ok but it appears they are playing the long game.
Francis is levering the rest of the league with his ability to take on cap. I think we have one big staring contest.
If I am the other GM's I have zero interest in giving up a 1st plus for them to take a player, or is it that you look at it as part of the deal to get your guy.
Example-
to sign Hamilton you pay what you have to for Seattle to take a Jake. Then sign your guy. Signing an FA is now FA and a trade, ouch. Makes me think the Flyers have to trade for someone. We all know you overpay in FA, even with a flat cap.
GM's are earning their $$$ |

Interesting thought. With the win now attitude however I can’t see moving back doing us much good tho. |

To Detroit Jake and a 1st..to Philly..same as we got for GHOST nothing....plus we would likely have to retain some of Jakes salary. No one want Jake at 8.25 for 3 |

I’d eat 2 mil on Jake for the right return. Ie not taking any money back / getting a late 1st or early 2nd.
Doesn’t seem likely however. |

Its weird, but as I look at their roster, I see a pattern. Pick a guy for a position, provided his salary is about 40% less than the average for that position.
Thus, Gourde is not cheap at 3C, has term, NTC. But how about at 1C? Eberle is not cheap either, but a good bargain as 1RW. Ditto Donskoi at 2RW. Larrson at 1RD? Tanev at 1LW?
I cannot figure out the Gio/Oleksiak combo, unless Gio leaves and JO takes over at 1LD. But everywhere else, I see a simple rule of thumb: pick BPA for a position provided existing/projected salary is about 60% of league average for that position.
If I am right, they don;t muck around much in trades/UFA. If they do, I am flat out wrong. *smile* |

Francis says he wants to keep his cap space, then takes yanne gourde for 5 mil off of the lightning roster. People will tell you anything to justify doing what they do. - Shrike
You're comment doesn't make sense. He has to have some players and he has to reach the cap floor.

Bill,
Looks like D'Angelo is being bought out. Right shot defensman. Might be able to get on a short prove it deal as he missed all of last season. I know he has baggage but is it worth a shot? Wanted your thoughts. Feel like you could be getting a pretty motivated player. - J35Bacher
Not a fit on this team in my opinion.
