Giving Sanheim a physical D partner does sound like a great idea to be honest. Sanheim seriously needs to hit a (frank)ing gym
- Richieattack18

I’m not high on Sanhiem at all but I do think Risto is the right kind of guy to match him with.

CF

season will play out before we try to resign Ritso

Hagg is an awesome person now he will get good minutes in his contract year (like that)

They didn't initially offer what they paid for Ritso, other teams bid up the price and they wanted their man.

Scouting staff believes the draft is 3 rounds deep

They have plenty of time to recoup next years 2nd round pick

If all of those picks turn into huge busts its not a bad trade
- Richieattack18

To be honest I would take the odds on that bet that the picks amount to little.

Zamula was really good in his callup. Wouldn't be surprised if he beat York out in camp for the last roster spot.
- Tomahawk

He needs at least a year. Was decent in one game and struggled the next. York was much stronger in his showing IMO. Zamula is just so skinny. Kid needs some protein shakes but he is smart. York is ready for that spot. There will be some competition for it.

Indeed there is. It's a negative correlation. In Buffalo's favor.

For every single year except 1 of the 8 he has spent with Buffalo, His relative Corsi and relative Fenwicks are negative, often by large amounts. Last year, he was -6 in relative Fenwick. That's quite a feat.

Meaning the team has actually significantly worsened when he steps on the ice.

But hey. Fancy stats and all that.

EDIT: almost -7 when playing 5-on-5.

- PT21

Relative stats are really one of the worst type of stats you can use. You have a bad team. A player like Ristolainen is going to see hard minutes and play against some top players. Unless he's Hedman or Lidstrom, that is going to seriously affect his numbers. Relative stats are basically lets take a player and compare him to teammates who play in different situations, with different linemates and compare them. Really a useless stat.

Not for a few years. He is a UFA after this season.
- MJL

I meant just best case scenario, that Risto works out and is extended a couple years. But hey! Maybe they only need one year. Yet it is a bigger overpay if that is the case.

Zamula is a little like Sanheim, no matter what they do they can't bulk up.

From Rasmus today when asked what type of player he is:

"I'm a player the other team does not like to play against. I love to hit, I love to be a pain in the ass to the other team"

Just what the Flyers need!

Seriously. Losing your final year to covid is unfortunately really going to screw some of these kids development big time.

Like I said earlier, at least Risto is a known commodity.

Didn't back read, so this may have already been covered.

Who's better, Risto or Savard? Would it have made more sense to trade Hagg for a pick, any pick just to clear a little cap space, then sign Savard and keep the 13th pick instead of making this trade? Obviously Svard would have to want to sign here, just sayin

I don't know enough about Savard or Risto to really compare the two

Ristolainen/Sanheim is going to very similar to Myers/Sanheim. Ristolainen is more physical, but he's not a good defender.

We discussed Myers iq before. You said he was good in that area. Many others even hockey people disagree. I think Risto had a similar issue as Myers but on a worse team. Was asked to do things and play a position he wasn’t suited for.

Like if we just had Myers as the first pair guy since we signed him. I would take Risto over Myers. It’s the price that was paid that is the issue with most.

Everyone discussed ghost as well. Just one outstanding season. Chuck tried and did move him eventually. Great return.

But we are all just posters. Not actual gms.

- Peter Richards

The biggest thing that cracks me up is as Myers was developing, from a couple of seasons in the AHL, to part time in 19/20, his hockey IQ wasn't really questioned. He was deemed a strong prospect with strong physical skills. One bad season on a really bad team and now he developed a bad case of hockey IQ. Must have contracted it while sleeping or something.

Come on fletch gotta see what the trade value for coots is now. After what you gave up for Risto are you not making calls for coots? Gotta get 2 1st rounders for coots right?
- Stayin alive

Dude. They are going for it now. They are not trading their best forward. Not happing. He wants to win now. Whether they are in position for that people will discuss but that is what they are doing. Their will be no trading Coots for picks.

Its close but I agree. However I think Risto with some stability will be better in the long run.

Thanks. I knew there was an age difference, but didn't realize the gap was that big. Would've been nice to just get Savard on a short deal instead of making this trade, but I'm sure he's likely looking for term, and he'll probably get it from someone. I guess we'll have to really hope that not being forced to play on the top pair benefits Risto

Best of luck to Twarynski in Seattle. I will be watching. Best success to Ghost. This is providing a new opportunity, run with it. Best wishes to Haag! Good soldier.

Welcome Rasmus Ristolianen!

A year or so ago, folks asked opinions on Ristolainen for Gostisbehere and I said yes. Obviously, this happening on back to back days to Ghost cap dump makes it feel like a swap of 4/5 depth defenseman. Except that it is really hard to reconcile all the lost draft assets. This one definitely seems like a huge overpay. Even assuming—best case scenario—Risto is motivated, in a better slotting, greatly improved team, plays better and is extended for a reasonable 5.5 AAV for a few years…the 2 rd pick is too much added.
