Acquiring Ellis and Risto is no different than 2 years ago when we acquired Braun and Niskanen.
We had HUGE holes at right D. Filling those holes isn't easy. Fletcher accomplished that with these trades. Nothing more needs to be understood.
We've drafted well for 5+ years and have plenty of young talent. If there's a year to lose draft picks, this is the year to do it anyway. Lots of prospects barely played this past season. Flahr will still find value this weekend. - mochoson
They lost a first and seventh this year. a second in 2022 and 2023. So at least it's not all in one year. Still gave up more than I wanted to but at least it's spread out.

A decent top 4 guy isnt worth a #1 and #2 pick plus another decent top 6 guy . Just like he did with GUS last year he totally jumped the gun. Guarantee their will be other decent type top 4 guys that get moved for much much less as the smoke clears after the draft - hfc355
What did Tampa pay for a rental in Savard to be a #5? I know it's not the same situation, but if they traded for Risto to be top pair instead of getting Ellis than I would be worried.
I personally think Risto will be way better off than he was in Buffalo and on a deeper team. As long as there is no major injuries this defense looks to be better off than it has been in a decade.
I still don't like giving up a 1st for a soon to be UFA and don't like adding a 2nd as well, but to me it's like the Hayes signing. The pickup was nice, but the term was way too much. People need to decide what they want...a bunch of draft picks that haven't been working out or buying players that cost over market, there is no middle ground.

so we lost our 3 worst players from last year and a 1st, for ellis and risto. I'll take it - bradster
Imagine the # 2 overall pick in a draft being the worst player on a team that is a dumpster fire. Solid asset management. But, but, but, all the pre-draft guru's had Patrick # 2. |

13th-overall, two 2nd-round picks, 7th, Hagg and Ghost... put an A prospect in place of Ghost and you're probably 90% of the way to Jack Eichel. |

I'm willing to bet Flahr finds us another Bobby Brink caliber talent in the 2nd round tomorrow (assuming we keep that pick).

Trade NAK get the 7th back.

Everyone is nuts. They just need something to whine about.
Days before the trade, there were many comments that we "just need a big physical RH shot defenseman next to Sanheim". Now that he has arrived, everyone complains.
He can play a ton of minutes, and has size. Our top 4 looks really good. If York steps up, even better.

Cmon dude, how do you fit his 10M$ under the cap? You then pay assets to get rid of Jake/JVR/Ghost if someone is even willing to talk. Not even remotely relevant to say this.

So if the Flyers play well, make the playoffs and make it to the conference finals.....are we still complaining we gave up a 1st for Ristolianen?

The funny thing is people just mention how physical he is, but don't bring up the fact that he can carry the puck up the ice at times.
Honestly they lose Ghost and Hagg and get a better version of both in one.

With a full season we might've been talking about whether Brink starts on the Flyers or the Phantoms in the fall. I definitely think him going back to school is the best choice but he's really, really close to contributing. |

Yes...yes they will. Especially if Ghost gets 25 points for Arizona and be declared the next coming of Paul Coffey. |

Imo they are signing him to and extension as soon as they can. Guessing 5x5.
Still wonder if someone else goes like jake or jvr.
Other than that. Resign Travis hart. Maybe one more depth player at forward and d. That’s about it. |

that is your opinion not mine in terms of making the flyers. This year or next. |

They flat out need a quality goalie. Otherwise pointless moves.

He's worse than Ghost.
If you hated Ghost, you're going to cry when you see Risto - BINGO!
It’s funny that when an offensive dman plays poor defensively, he’s worthless, but when a defensive dman plays poor defensively, it’s fine |

Marking the calendar for games against:
Buffalo....imagine if Risto scores against them.
Arizona...Patrick gets blown up by Risto when he finally decides to go to the net.
Arizona...Giroux makes the pigeon sound at Ghost. |

Well put. Not only that, but he's on the worst team in the league, measured over a one year, five year, and ten year period. He can thrive in this top 4 D situation.

Soo assuming risto is resigned and no other moves where does that leave us with coots contract? And if coots resigned that’s it isn’t it there definitely would be no cap left for foreseeable future.
Unless we have a replay of moves like this year right?🤮🤮🤮 |
