Better than Risto is such a low bar tho..

The 5x5.5 contract to come will be the cherry on the poop sundae.

Dude some of those analytics show he was worse for the team he was on. Explain that to me.
- PT21

I think you need a better understanding of analytics for one. They are a “tool” that helps show a players worth…and his overall play..they are however not the ONLY thing used to judge a players worth and are not the only metric used (thank god) I know this is not a discussion worth having as most analytics bore me to tears….ok Dude.

Did you watch the final two rounds of the playoffs? Isn’t Risto the type of player that can play that way? Or are we supposed to continue to play that soft? That softness was never going to have playoff success… I’m not saying Risto is a top pairing guy…but he is a decent top 4 and brings some things the Flyers lack. Their D is already substantially better then last year.
- landros 2

A decent top 4 guy isnt worth a #1 and #2 pick plus another decent top 6 guy . Just like he did with GUS last year he totally jumped the gun. Guarantee their will be other decent type top 4 guys that get moved for much much less as the smoke clears after the draft

All I know is if Risto's analytics and is a + player for the Flyers this coming year are positive...there's going to be A LOT of embarrassed corsi turds out there.

Jot this bold prediction down:

Flyers will have 4 defensemen with double digits in goals this coming season, you can pick which ones.

You do realize that owndership brought chuck in to take action and blow up Hextalls draft and wait plan right?

Any thought that risto may be better on a better team with less minutes? It seems like you are in overreaction mode. I put a lot of stock in what Bill says as he’s very knowledgeable and he doesn’t seem to be running to bridge looking to jump.

- Hextall271

I don't care what CF was brought in for. I am not going to condition my reaction based on management incentives. I am going to condition my reaction based on whether this was a good hockey trade.

At the risk of stating the obvious: Bill is knowledgeable, a gentleman, and also a Flyers employee.

How the hell do you expect him to be impartial? That is an unreasonable expectation. You expect him to excoriate his employers on a public board if they do something blatantly motivated by non-hockey reasons?

Hagg is more of a capable 3rd pairing guy than a decent 2nd pairing

You want to be physical and not dense man. If you have a guy like that in your top 4, you aren't going to the last 4.

Risto is a guy who reminds me of Dan Carcillo.

Maybe Risto sucks as bad as Ghost, but one thing I do know is everyone looks like crap playing for Buffalo. Only franchise in worse shambles than the Flyers currently and the only team that can make a franchise center look worthless.
- Glak18

He's worse than Ghost.

If you hated Ghost, you're going to cry when you see Risto

Was AMac any better when playing 16mins vs 22mins?

Too much for Rasmus. Too much. Two 2nds would’ve done it.
- Boyer83

How much different is that then what they spent?

Hagg lost his job. He’s expendable.

The 1st is a middling pick in a highly questionable draft

Acquiring Ellis and Risto is no different than 2 years ago when we acquired Braun and Niskanen.

We had HUGE holes at right D. Filling those holes isn't easy. Fletcher accomplished that with these trades. Nothing more needs to be understood.

We've drafted well for 5+ years and have plenty of young talent. If there's a year to lose draft picks, this is the year to do it anyway. Lots of prospects barely played this past season. Flahr will still find value this weekend.

I am not going to address this post because I will say something I regret later.

Find me one poster on HB outside the Flyers board whose hockey IQ you respect and ask him/her what she thinks of this "trade"

Flyers were 15th in Goals for per game last year and dead last in Goals against, I think he's addressing the most important issue with (2) top 4 defensemen, both who play with physicality.

Their owner probably refused. And now they ended up with basically nothing to show for trading away a top 5 player
- Nucker101

Yeah you're right. TTilman Fertitta was spiteful toward Morey and the return they got ended up amounting to nothing.

Don't forget what CF said, they would be a different team by Wednesday. CF had to know he was close on this deal, it had to happen today. There is more coming.

Yikes. I could see doing this to shore up your top 4 if you lost in the conference final, but for a non-playoff team..... It's a risk that could result in some lost jobs following this season. He is a -163, throughout 8 seasons and not a single one of them in the +. Obviously Buffalo isn't a team that makes it easy on D, but 18 points last season wasn't impressive either. I liked the Ellis trade, but this one is a win for Buffalo.

We definitely got 2 dmen who have something to prove. Ellis is coming off injury and is starting his career in Philly with term left. Risto has been in the rumor mills forever and has been stuck with the flaming poop franchise Buffalo. He’s also on an expiring deal. I’m hopeful these 2 will be difference makers.

so we lost our 3 worst players from last year and a 1st, for ellis and risto. I'll take it
