Friedman on the NHL Network gave an update on Hamilton. He said Carolina and Dougie have made progress towards an extension, but Carolina has given him a deadline prior to free agency to decide if hes staying or leaving. Then mentioned the Devils as the team who is going to go big for him

Have a feeling he stays in Carolina but would be a huge boost if he signs with us

not sure. Seems like Carolina doesn't want to pay him as much as he wants and they're giving him a hard deadline to sign with them before FA starts. Presumably if he isn't a guarantee they aren't going to get into a bidding war and move in a different direction.

I’m really disappointed in this years draft, yeah Hughes should be good, but it’s not exciting because it was expected. I’m also really disappointed they didn’t trade up for L’heureux, and instead drafted a pooptier version of bastian. Maybe it wasnt lou’s regime that was bad at drafting, maybe no matter who is in charge the team is destined to draft like dog poop.

DOOMED

I agree on L'Heureux. As I posted earlier, Nashville moved up to get him, meaning they knew some other team (Devs) was targeting him. Similar to the Rags moving up last year to jump in front of us. Nothing against Stillman, but he just was not the optimal pick at that point. Here is hoping to him proving me wrong.

Good point, almost like two years in a row our pick was poached and we just threw our next pick out there because they weren’t prepared.

So reading about some buyout options for different teams. Braden Holtby is one with a 1 year deal at $4.3 million. I think similar to the Crawford thinking he would be a decent backup to Blackwood, and get a sweetener from Vancouver. Its a one year deal so little downside and the $s are not crazy.

Yeah i wouldnt hate it, but im sure we could get someone better. Friedman on his 31 thoughts podcast this morning said the Devils had a deal in place with Vegas for Robin Lehner but it "fell apart"

I assume it was about who was available at 29 and somebody took Vegas's guy.

And another bright idea I had. Since the NHL is all about family togetherness (Ariz, Chi, NJ), perhaps Columbus would be interested in Jesper Boqvist. Wouldn't take much, maybe that bum Laine they have...

Doesn't really mean much, but Friedman just put out an article with his predictions for the Free Agency window. His predictions included Hamilton signing with NJ and Tarasenko traded to NJ or NYI

Hamilton and Meier and I’m thrilled. Tarasenko will probably come cheaper though, so maybe that’s why. For example, I’m not sure I’d want to give up next year’s 1st for Meier, who may not even stay with us. If Tarasenko costs less, it doesn’t stink that much, and who knows how much he’ll really bring anyway if we’d even want him back.

Gotta love what the Sens scout said to the media regarding their reaches of picks..

Ottawa scout Trent Mann said on Saturday, "A public list doesn't know what we know. That's the reality, and I know what the reality is. I live in the reality."

Pretty amazing lol

Yeah agree with that. If the Tarasenko is cost is reasonable then im totally fine with it. All the reports say hes fully healthy so its a risk im willing to take, and a fully healthy Tarasenko is a good bet to be atleast a 25-30 goal scorer on Hughes' wing. It'll also take the pressure off of Holtz for a couple of years so he doesn't need to be "THE guy" right away, and we wont need to rush him

A healthy Tarasenko also has more upside than Meier, guess "healthy" being the key. Meier's a decent player but I don't think he'll be worth the price to acquire either, unless I am overestimating the price.

I thought SJ would be looking to dump cap so they could retool but it seems like they're willing to wait for a better deal. Everybody knows that nobody can qualify that offer though so time's ticking on that.

Devil's apparently have had talks with Murray but looks like he will test FA

If we could re-sign Murray and get Hamilton that would be a huge improvement

Graves Hamilton
Severson smith
Murray Subban

Yeah he's basically a UFA on his deal, but they still have some time before they need to move him.

I'm fine with seeing what we have in Siegs and Bahl. Let them battle for the 3rd pairing spot.

Same. Murray didn’t show me enough last season. I was hoping for a little more.

It's Siegenthaler's spot right now. He's an NHL player. Can't say the same for Bahl yet.
