1st, 13th, two 2nd rounders, Dahlin, Cozens, Mittelstadt, Quinn, Luukkonen, whatever the return winds up being for Eichel. Very well stacked for the future. Wonder how they blow it?

I really think Rangers are going to get Eichel and massively overpay to do it. They are going to dump Kaako for sure.

Hoping for Kakko and two firsts. Then Eichel wilts in NYC.

Am I understanding correctly that since the final year of Meier’s salary is 10mil, that we’d have to qualify him at that to retain his rights? Would that mean 10mil on the cap for every season, or just 10mil that he makes in year one and then spread the rest around for a sensible cap hit? Zero interest if we’d have to pay 10mil a year for as many years as he re-signs with us.

The way qualifying offers works is that to get RFA offer sheet protection you're offering the player a one year contract for whatever they made in their last year plus something like 10%. The player can then just accept that offer whenever and play on that one year contract, but they are also afforded the right to negotiate a different contract (with any team) and except that.

So the problem with Meier is that nobody will give him a qualifying offer because he'll have a 10mil contract. Anybody who is trading for him is banking on they can get him to re-sign for a different deal instead of letting him walk. I don't think it's that big of a deal seeing that it's the last year eligible year of being an RFA anyway.

They can negotiate a different offer with another team when an RFA.. and we would get pick compensation depending on the price? Or he takes the 1 year big money deal with us and is then a UFA after it expires? Or he can choose to stay on a more reasonable deal with us even as an rfa.. and leave that big money year on the table?

Hall-Hischier-Meier would’ve been sweet lol.

Zacha-Hischier-Meier doesn’t quite have the same shine lol. Maybe put Bratt on the left side. Idk. The starting lineup will be interesting.

The player can negotiate a contract with any team after receiving a qualifying offer. If it's with the club that tendered the QO then they are just signed for the new contract. If the player accepts the offer sheet from another team, the original team can either match that contract and keep the player or let the player go and receive compensation draft picks (there is a chart you can look up for the picks you get based on how much the contract is).

Basically if we tender a qualifying offer and he accepts it we'll be on the books for a one year 10 mil deal then he'll become an Unrestricted Free Agent after the contract ends (not a good look). But if we had him and didn't tender a qualifying offer and re-signed him before the free agency window opened it would probably not be so bad. But obviously there is a lot of risk involved here.

Woah woah woah, slow your roll sport. It's still the sabres, the players they draft may be good, until the team franks that all up. See the current line of former 1st's in their organization asking to be traded as exhibits A through infinity.

If they can convince Eichel to stay they have a very good base

Eichel
Dahlin
Powers
Cozens
Reinhart if he stays
And a couple other nice pieces

No goalie though

At some point it will turn around

Well looks like Garland is off the table, rumored to be in a potential deal along with OEL to the Canucks

Credit to @Gambo987 who was first to report on OEL/Garland, but Beagle, Eriksson, Roussel and 9th overall pick are involved.

This trade is going to be bananas.

Yeah they haven’t had enough first round picks the last decade. Just a couple more will make them very good.

Seeing the returns for some of these players gives me very little hope we can put a package around the Isles pick for Meier.

More excited for possible trades than the draft itself. I don't see any way we don't take hughes.

If today is the day of bad GMs overpaying for assets/cap space and we can't get involved, staying out of it won't make us miss anything. Teams still need to move money after the draft for FA. It's all of the dumb GMs need to trade their first round picks right now and are getting fleeced for it.
