So if we miss on Hamilton.. who should we target? I don’t want to imagine not getting him.

I feel like Merkley has more upside than this guy though. I get that we're thin on defense at an organizational level but not sure about this.

The Devils have acquired Christian Jaros from the Sharks in exchange for Nick Merkley
- vlongo4419

No Bastian, no Merkley.. whatever shall we do for that 4th line RW??

6’4, 220, right hand D. Drafted 139 overall in 2015.

Does he though? They're only a year apart and I dont see a world where he was ever anything more than a 4th liner on this team at best, and he most likely wasnt going to be on the roster this season outside of injuries. Its an AHL move

I suppose the bar for this guy is to be less terrible than Tennyson which is pretty low so fine. Merkley showed some decent ability, although I don't think he should be on the opening night roster. Feeling this Jaros guy only brings height/60 to the table.

Just checked the list. It’s Hamilton or bust. No interest in Barrie.

Merkley likely wouldnt have even made the opening night roster with how our team currently is, and its widely reported we want to add a top 6 winger. So he was going to get buried even more. Rumors are that we werent going to qualify him so we got a guy that Fitz feels is more beneficial to the organization, and fills arguably the weakest organizational position we have. Hes a better defender than Tennyson, and he should start the season the #1 RHD for Utica. We need to also make moves to improve the AHL team to try to help with development and this does that.

Yep especially at RHD theres literally nothing i would be interested in after Dougie except maybe Savard? Even then im not a huge fan of his so its pretty much Dougie or bust though for sure on the right side

If Hamilton doesn't get it figured out with Carolina I just don't see what team other than us can really afford to sign him to the mega deal he wants but also play for a team that will be in the playoffs sooner than later. Seattle can offer him the money but their roster is not good.

This. Might be a little more to this trade than we know... open wing roster spot, got that tarasenko smell to it.

It's the "or bust" I am worried about. If Hamilton does not sign here, we will still be an improved building team, but we might be looking at a lottery pick again.

Another lottery pick, ugh. BUT, it’s the Shane Wright draft, the next generational talent. Kid is simply amazing...

Lol what if we pulled off a nyr and land him with one of the worse odds lol. We could have nico as our 7.5 mil 3rd line C.

We’re probably a lotto team even with Hamilton and a winger. But at least Graves and Seigen is better than Kuli and Butcher. And if we add a wing, those moves alone plus a goalie will help bring stability to the young forwards. But Hamilton will help us big time now and the next several years.

I wouldn’t hate another good pick. It can also be packaged too. As long as our kids look better.

Keep in mind the NYR lottery win is no longer possible, starting with next years draft no team can move up more than 10 picks... that being said, still won’t be a shocker if the devils are among the 10 worst teams next year to have a chance, albeit small, at Shane Wright.
