Obviously your charts say he’s horrible and the one that tells me he’s gonna be horrendous in the next 5 years, now that’s some legit analytics. Why even play more hockey with that amazing chart.
- rwilliams88

I can tell you he will never play remotely close to being worth 9.5M or 2nd first round draft choices.

I get it. Numbers are bad.

Good for you.

You’re the only one here on a hockey blog in July who loves hockey.

He could win the Norris next year, and I’d still think it was a dumb move for a rebuilding team to sacrifice the assets needed to build a team just to acquire one guy who will be past his prime by the time the team around him recovers.

I couldn’t give a flying (frank) what you think of my opinion.

- Ogilthorpe2

All I ask is give your opinion when you’re actually knowledgeable on the subject (in this instance the player) and I’ll respect it. Otherwise it’s just noise, nonsense actually. Don’t be so butt hurt, I cherish your intelligent opinions. You enjoy your night yeah!!

This is from Elite prospects:
Nolan Allen
BTW all my grandson is the playing the lead character in M Night's Shaymalian's OLD...premieres today. he and his dad were invited to NYC for the Monday night walk the red carpet...
Nolan Allan is likely going in the top-64 of the draft. Even considering this ranking, who can blame a team for taking a somewhat sure-thing in a draft year full of question marks?
Allan’s value comes from skating and defence. He’s already an NHL-calibre skater with projectable posture (knees over toes, hip flexion, chest up), lateral and backwards quickness, and separation through punch turns exited with crossovers. Some tweaks to his recovery (less heel kicking) and posture (more hip flexion) will make an above-average NHL skater.
From that base, Allan defends the rush with NHL-ready fundamentals and a suffocating mentality. He backpedals to the middle while closing the gap, drives plays to the outside, then erases the puck carrier. A tight off-puck gap ensures that he’s ready to timed a stick check with the pass or eliminates his man entirely. When a tight gap isn’t possible, he steps up and angles the puck carrier to the perimeter. His defensive zone coverage isn’t quite at the same level, but he’s engaged, physical, and alert.
Offensively, Allan’s game is essentially four plays: Low-percentage shot, step-in and fire, D-to-D pass, or, at the U18s, off-puck weak side activation. There’s fundamental skill here, taking pucks in motion, but he doesn’t create much offence in the WHL, hence the point totals. In particular, Allan’s lack of distribution greatly inhibits his play creation potential.
Most pressingly, Allan’s transition game is mostly turnovers with flashes of skill. There are skill limitations -- he lacks puck control from his top-hand-on-hip style, he doesn’t have any deception on the breakout to mask his intentions, and he doesn’t consistently see options on the inside lane. For the most part, he only goes D-to-D when pressured, and when he’s feeling creative, he tends to turn straight into incoming pressure, reverse the puck to the opposition, or get pickpocketed when handling.
At the U18s, Allan showed more offence and transition involvement. Much of that was likely the product of playing with Brandt Clarke, but Prince Albert might be constraining his skill a bit. If that’s the case, he could be a No. 5. If not, he’s probably closer to a low-event No. 6 or 7.

Take kit with a grain of salt as this is their first round mock:
1 bernier
2 Ecklund

Also how many times have a team signed a d-man to over $7m and it been worth it? Hedman and Josi are the only two for sure imo.

The others are guys like Karlsson, Doughty, OEL, Carlson, Letang, Subban, Vlasic, Burns. Some are still fine but for many the value of their contracts sunk quick or likely will in the next 1-2 years. Jury is still out on Pietrangelo.

I love numbers, just not the ones that tell me what a 26 year old #1 defenseman will do in the next five years, that’s all.

It’s actually 3 1st and a 2nd + 9.5mil per for 8 years!

And then they draft who..?

Scouts and management constantly preach picking the best available player!

So is the guy they picked at 32nd the best player available when rankings had him at 80th+?

WTF…?

He'll be 27 before the next season and the chart is based on historical age decline data. It's been run through thousands of simulations of other players to try to be as accurate as possible.

It may not end up being accurate in this case cause it's still just a probability, but it's also not guesswork with no basis in reality - it's applied information.

Personally, I'd be less annoyed at this trade if it was just money. Still crazy amount and years for anyone, but the assets given up on top that is not a good look imo.

@BenPopeCST

Bowman says Nolan Allan impressed the Blackhawks with Canada during the U18 WCs.

"Nolan was fantastic during that tournament. I got to go watch him in person... He was a really big workhorse for that Canadian team that won the Gold Medal. He caught my eye watching that game."

I feel like we've heard this at least the past three years - Stan sees the guy play a few times at some tournament and decides that's his guy. Wonder if Kelley concurred with this pick or if he was recommending someone else.

Stan must really think Borgstrom and Reichel are gonna be impactful now. Cuz to select a guy at 32 thats prob 4 years away from scratching Pro hockey seems insane.

The only way that can be accurate is when prognosing when someone’s age comes into play and when they’re skills diminish because of that age. Other than that it’s a guessing game. All I know is that I’m excited that Seth is gonna be part of the hawks D, he’s got talent!!

I'd give Buffalo Strome for their #1 2nd tomorrow. Seems like Reinhart is gone. Take Raty, Chibrikov, Stankoven, etc... An actual top 32 talent...

But. But . But..Ogi doesn't give a flying frank...get it? He's a pilot. Just in case you didnt know. I'm sure he has mentioned at least twice somewhere in this thread. Hey Ogi ......nobody cares. Oh. If you are lucky, you may get one of his "Your Funny" or "You're Funny" responses. He needs to stick to cooking the greatest (fill in the blank) and drinking the greatest (fill in the blank) beer he made and let the adults talk hockey

How will the Hawks introduce Jones to the Chicago media?

Live press conference? If so will Stan be present? Doubt it.

Zoom call more likely.

They're introducing them (both brothers) on an architecture boat cruise tomorrow

And, no, I'm not kidding
