What !!
He would be the steal of the draft AT 32 .here goes Wallstat to Detroit - oldduffman
Cossa and if you read what I posted, I said it would be a good pick at 32. Pay attention, sparky. |

It has to be put into context. Like how many did other teams draft and develop. Or at least compare hos f1st round success against other GMs.
That being said. I am fully onboard the fire Stan train. - Elbows15
Just asked the guys at The Athletic to do that comparison. Think it would be fascinating and help put Stan's overall performance in perspective. |

Not lately, for sure
But, I'm wondering about the diamond-in-the-rough types like Keith and Shaw taken in later rounds. How long has it been since we've hit on one of those? - pdx2ord
Dinky. Kurashev will be one. Hagel was found on the street. Panarin, Kubalik, Suter are all guys that cold qualify for diamonds in the rough to me. |

Traded up to take a goalie in the first round. Double Fail. |

Only one of Stan's 1st round picks has not played in the NHL. McNeill. Beach was a Tallon choice to me since the change happened right around the draft. McNeill is offset by Danault also being a 1st rounder. |

Blowman trades 2 first round picks, a second, and Bovquist for Seth Jones.. for a guy who clearly doesn’t want to sign an extension with Columbus, would be a free agent next year, and then extend him for that contract basically doubling his salary guaranteed no one was offering anything close to that.. bowman ruined in three trades with the jackets..
WTF?!?!?

Guess I was thinking more of finding (draft or off the street like some of the undrafted Euros), developing in-house, and then actually getting at least intermediate-term benefits for our own team. |

If someone like Raty or Svechkov falls til around 25, Stan should package 32 to move up. |

Seeing as our rebuild has been extended, we have time to tell. Hopefully soon. |

I mean Vinnie was a 6th round choice and he has found a way to play in the NHL for close to 250 games. |

I know but GMs make or break on their 1st round choices and SB has done well there. Anything after the 2nd round is a pure crapshoot. |

I really felt he was back on his game the last two seasons. This trade was awful for so many reasons. If Danny is pushing it then he needs to step out and take the heat |

Agreed, although he was another boomerang after being shipped off after never really sticking with the big club.
How many guys have we had since Saad and Shaw who were developed in-house, stayed with and unquestionably helped the team for several years? And, how does that compare to the rest of the NHL, especially those teams that were successful during the same era as us? |

Even then. How many teams were drafting in the latter half of rounds? Its not really an apples to apples comparison. |

Very true - that's why a compare with the teams who were successful in same era as us would be more interesting (I'm assuming they were also picking in lower tier). |

Also, when your in maintaining mode vs building mode, you’re more likely to move young assets to keep the window open, and/or suffer cap casualties as entry level deals expire. |
