Could it any worse - Scott1977
It could be a full NMC. The M-NTC is no big deal. The cap hit already accomplished anyway. |

It isn’t like Jones is old!! Don’t like giving up the #1 next year, but would be different if he was 30-31. |

Also, don’t forget losing two consecutive 1st round picks will Suck the life out of any hope of a timely rebuild. - Ogilthorpe2
Totally agree. That 1st next year could be a killer if the Hawks really suck this year. Which is a high probability. |

He has never been the #1. Werenski is - Elbows15
Seth Jones is playing more minutes than anyone on his team and top 5 in the NHL Time on Ice per game. He is a #1. He offensive production, impact and time on ice all point to "Yes" |

The money isn't out of line for a top pairing guy with at least 5 good years ahead of him.
It may turn out differently long term but Bovqist was a mistake at #8 and looks to be brittle. And the Hawks promoted him far sooner than he was ready. Good luck to the kid and hope he stays healthy for his sake.
I pay the extra money in salary for Jones all day long before Herman Munster Zadorov hamstrings me with a bloated mullti year deal.
Beyond the 1st 15 picks in this year's draft, its a crapshoot. Too many kids didn't play much this past winter. - RickJ

Question for you Mr. R (and forget about salaries/cap hits and draft picks).
If you were the GM of the Hawks would you consider yourself to have improved the team significantly if you made a straight up deal Bovqist and Zadorov in exchange for Seth Jones?
Because that is what Bowman has done so far. I await his further moves with this team. - RickJ
Z is still here for the moment and players do come from the draft. How many team successfully build through trades and FA signing a cap league, Rick? |

Too true, especially especially if the cap stays flat for several years |

In the end this will get Bowman and JC fired. |

Not by performance which is all that matters to me. Werenski is
also, this disagrees with your opinion.

Good call on our draft pick not mattering. We essentially got a 2nd round pick, unless Bowman moves up. - I Am The Breadman

I expect it will all come down to Seth's performance and Hawks getting into the playoffs and how they do if they make it. Can't see Rocky accepting another year of missing the show. |

Sadly, at this point it doesn't matter if Bowman takes the fall for the whole Aldrich situation, he has (frank)ed the next GM royally. |

But that's not what the deal was. You have to account for the two 1sts, this yrs being in the top 1/3 of the draft...... Now if you say no way to know if a draft pick busts even the 1st overall and that Jones is a proven commodity I'd have to agree.
But yes, no doubt the Blackhawks are better today than yesterday. But like a mile horse race leading at 3/4 of a mile means nothing. I think the Hawks made leading at the mile marker much much more difficult.
I never ever ever liked Boqvist and I can't even be objective about him. I was a Dobson guy and still am. At 20 Trotz, Trotz, and they lose 1-0 in Game 7 to the eventual cup champs, is giving him playoff minutes for Christ sakes. My 2nd choice was Wahlstrom cuz he scored lotsa goals in the USHL. |

I will eat all 11 of my Blackhawk hats if they make the playoffs this year. NFW that happens. They have not improved. Yeah, Jones is a little better stats wise then Keith. But what other things has this org done to improve the team. It's not like we are playing a shortened season this year. Unless Stan makes other unbelievable deals, this team is no better than last year. And they have severely undermined a rebuild. |

Yeah, Stanbo's going all in to save his job. Another non-playoff year, coupled with the scandal, will be it for him. Hopefully. |

Think he played 50 minutes in that triple OT loss to TB in the bubble a couple yrs back. Kid will eat minutes and is a warrior, no doubt.

Just because a team had two good D-men, doesn't mean he isn't a #1. The extension is a bit of an overpay, but Jones is better than anyone we had and very likely already better than anyone we had in the system was going to be. I'm not going to complain about a guy who was playing a full season in the NHL at 19 on Defense and didn't look out of place. |
