Hopefully. Would suck to watch the Jackets draft Shane Wright first overall next year if somehow we got the first. - hawkitect
Yes that was my biggest concern some top talent in the next 2 years . I think Stan is not done bigger moves coming . |

If it comes with an NMC or NTC, then I'm going to scream and agree that Stan should be fired.
Guessing this will be the final test for StanBo and JC - if Seth has a bad year, then I can see them both going. - pdx2ord
Actually just saw on capfriendly he has a m-ntc |

Only we aren’t getting a guy to contribute in the 26-27 season, or the year after.
You build through the draft. - Ogilthorpe2

This year's draft is questionable at best. How weather next year's draft is loaded and if that is not a lottery protected pick it is absurdly dangerous to give it up in an organization that isn't immediate contender. - jfkst1
This yrs draft is solid thru 13 picks. No generational player but who cares if you're not picking in the top 3.

And in 26/27 Kane and Toews will be 37 and 38 yrs old. Sillinger/Wallstedt/Lucius will be 23! - Mr Ricochet

The same crazies would have gone nuts if Bowman had paid Z his $5M asking price. Instead he dumps Zadorov and pays additional $4M for a wheelhorse on the backend. Thats a choice I make everyday of the week. - RickJ
Don't forget dumping Keith's cap hit makes the money even for the next two years. |

If in a covid flat cap they added a star fit him in....
good pipeline of defenders around him and he is hungry to win in the future.
a LEADER from day one. - wiz1901
Ok, lets say the D pipeline pans out how bout the pipeline for top 6 forwards other than Reichel and he's not a sure thng ....... That could have been addressed with this yrs #11 and next yrs probable top 15 in a draft you yourself knows rates with the 2019 draft: https://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/draft/nhl2019e.html

WOW, a top prospect, a first, a second and another first for a guy the Jackets were never going to resign anyway?
Are the Hawks a Seth Jones away from cup contention? That is a boon of a package, potentially THREE top 11 picks depending on how the Hawks fare this year. This trade looks better if the Hawks are good and push that pick down.
This is a very risky trade, because the Hawks have lost any chance to get a blue chipper in the draft should they struggle. It then would become a negative feedback loop, crappy team, no firsts because given away, years in the toilet. Bowman would then be out of a job leaving a mess for the next guy to clean up. Or maybe Jones comes in the Hawks get good, the pick is a lower 1 and we erect a statue to the great Stanley. Can't wait to see it play out.
This is a lot to give up for a player some question if he's truly a #1 guy. I don't know honestly, but this trade is very scary to me. |

A couple yrs I'll get my answer but I believe today if they drafted Dobson instead of Boqvist they aren't forced into this deal and the natural progression of a proper on the fly rebuild would have been allowed to play itself out. Proper timing.
Instead they get a solid 2-3 Dman with a big hit that costs them the 11th and a 2nd rd pick (a solid prospect in a Sillinger, Lucius or a possible franchise goalie) this yr and probably a top 15 pick next yr that if done correctly they add to the pipeline.
Very well will be the Hawks are better next yr and worse in 2-3-4 yrs than they would have been. ......... Keep the 11th and the 2nd rounder this yr, the 1st rd pick next yr and if you wanna go get a 10-11 mil UFA Dman in 2 yrs that's cool.
I think it has a better chance than not of hurting the squad 3-4-5 yrs out than not and Jones for sure is not the missing piece to a deep playoff run next yr. If he was maybe make this deal. This deal is for the Rados of the world, 1 piece from the cup.
In one sentence someone here said "this isn't what rebuilding clubs do". Indeed. - Mr Ricochet
Question for you Mr. R (and forget about salaries/cap hits and draft picks).
If you were the GM of the Hawks would you consider yourself to have improved the team significantly if you made a straight up deal Bovqist and Zadorov in exchange for Seth Jones?
Because that is what Bowman has done so far. I await his further moves with this team. |

The first next year is my only issue with the trade. Dumb move. The extension is another topic altogether. - Ogilthorpe2
Agree, but let’s see what’s behind door#2, he may add a #1 for next year, or other assets. I don’t want to jump into conclusions, I’ll wait and see what else he does this offseason. |

This is what I do not understand about the trade either. Even if Jones is worth that package and the extension, this move is wildly inconsistent with rebuilding. Right player and wrong time is still not a smart move for the org. |
