A true #1
- wiz1901

Is he though?

This is an incredibly bold chance to take giving him that extension. I’m worried it’s gonna cripple us.

waiting to see the exact details of this....but so far Jones and 1st (32nd pick) for boqvist and 12th pick plus other picks.....depending upon what those are......is OK in my book.

Does 1 bad year make Jones a turd? I don't think so. People here ready to launch DeBrincat into the sun last year and we all saw how that went.

See what flushes out.....they locked in their #1 d man for life. 8 years.....NHL said 66 million, everyone else says 76 million....and people female doging about cap space.....0% chance Toews gets anywhere CLOSE to 10.5 again....NONE

You can't judge a player on they played during the pandemic years...so many factors....no training camp, etc

Agree… Blowman is moving into the echelon of Ken Holland territory… couldn’t have made a dumber trade and for all that money… rather let the kids play and see if they can develop into a top pairing dman——

None of the Hawks prospects have Jones skillset. He is still young.

Still other moves are coming stroke and bigz will be gone and Seabrook otro money and then Kane and towers contracts up after next year and hopefully the cap goes up might lessen the stupidly of bowman. Just have to hope he gone soon and find good players in the 2nd round Boucher and dach

People are talking like he’s a 35 year old and in his declining years. He’s still a top defenseman. Yeah his play has faults red a bit the couple years but he didn’t forget how to play hockey. There could of been a bunch of factors that went into it. But if he’s in a place he’s happy to be in with his brother...I’m looking forward to it myself!

For me, he doesn't push us towards contention. We shall see ...

Did Stan need to make this deal today? Did he need to re-sign Jones? The guy hasn’t played one game for Chicago yet and Stan’s handing out extensions like they’re candy.

And Dcat contract is up the same time as Toews and Kane. Can easily shift some of that money to give Dcat a raise. Boqvist is a RFA in 22-23 so what is that 3-4 mil bridge maybe? If he continues to improve?

Jones cap hit is big but it isn't going to break the Hawks.

- bhawks2241

Toews may retire at the end of his contract.

Would you rather have had OEL or Pietrangelo or Josi etc instead?

The salary isn't as much the issue as what the Hawks have in other talent to surround him with.

- RickJ

Exactly. We paid heavy for something on defense I don't know Bowman would ever draft - a big mean dman.

Face the facts; Bowman is determined to bring in as many skilled young guys on defense. They compliment Jones. In effect, you could have a Keith/Seabrook comparison although it is the size and skill combo not exact same type of dmen skill package as those past Blackhawk dmen

Well at least Bowman got Jones without loosing Dach or DeBrincat. Let that sink in. I really want to see Kaiser and Vlasic added down the road. Beaudin will move along. So too the sort of slow Murphy when the time to trade him is right.

If you are giving up a top prospect you have to do the extension

Term is 8 years but seeing conflicting reports on whether its $9.5M or $8.25M AAV. Still high either way.
- Theo Fox

All of a sudden the bean counters come out of the woodwork with raised eyebrows and a frown.

Methinks they dost protest too much. Some team eventually would have given him that money anyway.

Want a wheelhorse defenceman you have to pay. Doughty, Josi, OEL, Pietrangelo, Ekblad, Karlsson, Vlasic, Spurgeon, Chabot - prefer one of those?

I’m fine with the trade if it’s $8.25, $9.5 is too much.

TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger says that Jones will sign an eight-year, $76 million ($9.5 million AAV) contract extension on Wednesday. OUCH

This is not Seabrook ll...Jones is 27 and not even close in terms of the hard tread on those tires.
- NamedSources
Before the contact is over if it's 8 yrs. The price of doing business these days it seems. Pay a guy big, sign him for max yrs and suffer at the end of the contract.

Remember he has 8 yrs in the bigs as a 26 yr old. Went straight from Jrs to the bigs. Seabs came in as a 21 yr old and yes had a lot of playoff miles on him which Jones doesn't and probably won't have to worry about going forward.

Debrincats qualifying offer is $9M I think.
- GPHawksfan

Over $8 anyway. I like the move. Forget the crazies here good players cost big money.

Agreed. A #1 dman cost money. For some...any move Bowman makes his bad. Plus you still have 3 good young dmen who are still developing and more on the way.

Jones asked Artem Anisimov what kind of guy Stanbo was. He told him he hands out contract extensions as a welcome gift.

Why wait on the extension?? I feel much better knowing he’s not playing for the hawks for only 1 year while giving up what we did!!

He does but Seabs was also past his prime where Jones is just entering it.
They paid Seabs for what he already did...they are paying Jones for what he will do. Big difference.

He is a #1 dman in the NHL and something we didn't have.

No, he isn't.
