I don't mind us bantering about it. It helps us work through it. Some of us have a lot of attachment to some of these players. We've all seen some of our favorites leave and it can suck. When I was in 2nd grade and they traded Gartner I almost became a Leaf's fan. They won the cup that year.

You haven't once mentioned the fact that Buch is not currently under contract and is due a significant raise. That is always a huge factor in what the return will be in a trade.
We got a player that helps fill our biggest need and a draft pick for a guy that would have cost us someone else to re-sign.
I choose to focus on that. And I loved what Buch has grown into.

I didn't hate the McDonagh trade at the time. It has not aged that well but it's still not the worst thing ever. He's playing behind arguably the best d-man in the league and it keeps him partially sheltered and less battered. If he was still here he would be wrecked by injury at this point.

I honestly think they will be better. Players that stick up for each other, are harder to play against and get dirty goals. We didn't have that before, but we're getting there. Much more balanced team I think. I like it.

Yep. Some guys can't be the top line/pair player you hope for.

I think Trouba would be just fine as #1 but Fox unexpectedly eclipsed him. Trouba behind Fox is a hell of a 1-2 punch, albeit an expensive one.

I will defend Trouba until he is no longer here.

I’m not disagreeing we needed to get players like this. What I’m disagreeing about is we used our best trade chip to do it. There’s plenty of other guys we could’ve traded Sammy Blais for. I’ve been saying for years we need to be tougher to play against, I knew and WANTED guys like Blais brought in. I just think Drury panicked trying to plug that hole when if he waited there would’ve been better/cheaper options. Or maybe we still would’ve ended up with Blais but it wouldn’t have cost us Buch.

You're assuming this was on the table. Maybe it was and buch said, I'll go to arbitration and at that point the Rangers are stuck with an amount they don't want or walking away and losing him for nothing. Maybe they get lucky but apparently Drury was not willing to gamble on it and took what he did.
