Unless Drury thinks they have the best offer on the table for Eichel and he’s willing to wait and it’s for a lot less than we all think. |

Panarin Strome Kakko
Laf Zib Kravtsov
Kreider Goodrow Chytil
Blais Rooney Barron
I don’t think this lineup is better than last years.
Howden for a 4th is whatever
Signing Goodrow was a good signing regardless of how people feel about the AAV
The Buchnevich trade we got killed on. |

I feel that Drury devoted too much time & effort doing anything possible, including exploring various moves ahead with other teams for immediate possible flipping; to in the end bring in his only target at center in Eichel & the uncertainty with his neck injury and condition. That instead of totally dropping his "STEALTH" mode interest to acquire him, since of great suspicion, the Sabres would never release copies of his diagnostic tests, and medical reports to him, nor likely to any other team interested; for one they wanted to deal before the Entry Draft to also Eichel's satisfaction. There is no way Eichel gets traded now, unless this whole neck surgery being necessary thing is found at some point to have been just a farce.
No team in any contact sport would even trade low for a top player needing immediate neck surgery, due to knowing that very few pro athletes playing contact sports, yet the world's fastest one in ice hockey, have had 100% successful recoveries & a return to their prior level of playing ability for a lengthy time period.
In the end today, an ESPN commentator in our former GM, Jeff Gorton, along with J.D., both performed their duties better for at least this one day than Drury did; but with one exception in Drury thus far not overpaying to acquire Eichel. |

They also had their hits and misses. So far Drury WOOFED on that Buch trade. |

So if you keep Buch, where do you put him?
4th line instead of Blais?
Or next to Zib and then Laf plays 3rd line and Kreider plays 4th line? Or actually Kreider can play 3rd since he’s a vet and Laf plays 4th.
I think a lineup with Blais on the 4th line instead of Buch/Kreider on the 4th is more balanced, provides more identity and versatility.
Buch trade frees up cap space and ice time for Laf/Krav/Kakko |

You always swap centers and wingers as if they're completely interchangeable. I don't recall a lot of coaches just throwing players in the middle on a whim.
As we sit now, Chytil will be our 3C and Goodrow will be on the wing. Not liking the trade isn't going to change that. |

You're correct in that Drury botched that Buch trade big time in exchange for just a 2nd Rounder in 2022, & a 4th line role player in Samuel Blais (though for more toughness) for a team wanting now to contend, with the postseason being an absolute minimum to reach in 2022, and the rebuilding phase having ended. Acquiring Blais alone if on even an "NHL Trade Deadline Day" as a depth move necessary to fill a role of need, would only require a trade of a 3rd rounder at most. Instead, Drury got stoned by the Blues even though it was supposedly at the best point to sell highest right now on Buch. That despite Buch just a few days short of becoming an RFA, for being a top two liner in his prime at age 26 coming off his best NHL season.
Here's a good comparison with a recent season's Rangers trade:
Gorton's trade back on Trade Deadline Day of 2019, of a center also at age 26 in Kevin Hayes to Winnipeg, netted him 22 year old then Brendan Lemieux, & the Jets 1st Round pick, along with a Conditional 4th Rounder in the 2022 Draft had the Jets won the Cup in 2019. In addition, Gorton retained zero of the prorated balance remaining on Hayes's $5.175M salary, with the Jets picking up the full prorated portion left. Hayes signed that one year deal in 2018 with hopes of receiving a new lengthier contract in 2019 with the Rangers. |

You were just complaining how the trades so far have made the current lineup worse than last years.
Now you want to trade the current 2C for picks we won’t see for at least 2-3 years? How does that line up with you wanting the current lineup to be better than last years? |
|

Rangers can still trade for Dvorak with picks/players |

Start Chytil off as the 2C or use him as part of a package for a guy like Dvorak. |

But they still need to acquire a top 2 line type center so Goodrow can be the 3rd line one; (& a need for a veteran left side d'man to replace UFA, B. Smith.)
Dealing Strome first before hand (& possibly with another piece necessary) to acquire a top two type line center would have teams holding up Drury in price like the Sabres have been attempting to do to all interested teams in Eichel, (BUYER BEWARE); or in reverse mode, how the Blues stole Buch. from him.
That's unless Drury is trying to get a third team involved in a trade if necessary to bring in a top two center, or is willing to explore a bottom two line one in free agency. I wonder if they possibly have LAF in their plans to play some time at center, especially if ending the Chytil experiment, or if Chytil is dealt. |

Othman is good, it’s just we don’t need another winger. This team has been trying to solve its problem down the middle since we signed Drury and Gomez yet we continue to ignore the position in the draft. From what I’ve read he will be a fan favorite someday, says he wants to play like Mathew Tkachuk getting under opponents skin and throwing his body around, it just doesn’t address what this team has been missing for over a decade. |

We still have Chytil Georgie Gauthier Reuanen Nils Jones Strome etc to get into the 2nd round or upgrade at 2C. |

I actually like the Othmann pick
he was my pick for Florida in the mock draft and I did some research on him and he's got some serious promise. If OHL has a normal season this year he could shoot up to 40 goals.
I can definitely see why he'd be the best player available on their board at #15 but definitely the last thing they needed
so they didnt draft for need they went BPA
he's 3 years away anyway
what would have been really interesting to see is if they would have taken Cossa had Detroit not jumped the in draft
