From my buddy the Blues fan:

One final random thought on the trade to help you sleep better.
Blais was freaking clutch during the cup run. Big goals, momentum changing hits.
You'll love what he brings to the Apple.
And he's a good Canadian boy (albeit French) who will give every ounce on every play.
The more I analyze it, it's not nearly as one-sided as you may think.

I know this probably won't console most of you, but I am sticking with my philosophy that the guys in charge know.more than I do.

They might and do, but doesn't mean we can't criticize. Plus, the issue isn't Blais, who fits. It's who he was acquired for in the deal.

How does that work for you? Does religion trump work or do you just kinda make up for the time?

I don’t think the Buch trade was that bad really. What did people expect, a 1st and a blue chip prospect?

Buch has consistently been the most inconsistent forward every year since he joined the league, except for last year which was a shortened season. Now it could be that this is the start of him being a legit consistent top line guy, or we could be selling high before we need to commit 6mm+ per year long term to an inconsistent player.

It’s not like he has been potting 30 goals every single year since he broke into the league

I believe Drury is giving Gallant the team he wants to work with. Im sure Gallant knows what he wants, along with what we need. Theyre trying to make it happen. I have faith in Drury and Gallant to put a team out there that will kick asz and win while doing it.

Yeah, Buffalo traded Ristalainen for basically what we got for Buch, plus a 1st rd pick

This trade imo is horrible. I’ve been watching this team since the 70s and this right up there w so many other bad trades they’ve made over the years.

#Blackhawks trade Adam Boqvist, 11th overall tonight (2021 1st), a 2022 1st, and a 2nd rounder to #CBJ for Seth Jones, 32nd overall tonight (2021 1st, 31st pick cause ARI forfeit), and a 2022 6th round pick.

CBJ is getting Jake Bean from #Canes for the above 2nd rounder.

Trading a middle 6 winger for a 2nd and some grit is right up there? His name is Buchnevich, not Zubov.

Nothing Buch has shown over the past 5 years says he is something other than a middling winger. Good player and had endeared himself to fans but come on.

If the team makes the playoffs and makes a run, will it matter as long as the end result is positive?

The unfortunate thing is we had positive assets however our needs were of more quality depth players. So we went out and got the best/clutch depth players possible. We would never get what we thought we were owed based on our needs. You cant win ever trade on paper, it only matters what happens at the end of the year.

Not only was he almost a PPG player last season but he was one of our best defensive forwards and one of the best PKers. His game is a lot more than just his offense. This trade will be up there with the McD/Miller debacle that we all said from the beginning was a disaster.

If Jones gets 9.5, does Fox ask for 10.5?
- rangerdanger94

My worry after Heiskanen received that $8.45M AAV/8 year deal, was who would be re-signed first --- Fox by us, or Makar by the Avs.
If Makar plays hardball with the Avs & should sign first for greater than Jones' $9.5M, it could result in the Rangers having to pay Fox what you suspect he may ask for in $10.5M annually.
That's why it's a must to sign your related of like potential F.A's as early as possible to new deals.

***Update about 15 minutes later RangerDanger:

Jan posted shortly later while I replied to you, which I was unaware of while taking time to solely return on the site here just prior to the Entry Draft beginning, that Jones' deal is in the $8.25M AAV for 8 years; (i.e, slightly more than Heiskanen).

Again, the worry would be what Makar would receive from the Avs, should he be extended to a new deal before the Rangers extend our Norris Trophy winner in Fox.

Fact is we couldnt keep him at the cost of Fox, Zib and Kakko.

NYR brass knew that, other teams knew that. We got what was needed to round out the roster. We didnt maximize on the trade but sometimes you win some times you lose. It only matters what happens at the end of the year.

Forced is a relative term. Rangers could have gone to arb with him. Get Blais at a cheaper cost.
- airjan23

But don't you think Jan, that the Rangers feared a possible excessive amount for them (given their circumstances), that an arbitrator could have awarded Buch?

I'm aware of what he has done at both ends of the ice. And I admit I wanted more for Buch when all things are said, I don't look at this deal as a disaster. There are smarter men than you and me.

Buccigross talking about trades, maybe Eichel gets moved tonight. There was talk saying that ESPN wants a major trade to announce tonight before it leaks out. Would be awesome if that happens.
