How much would you pay for a good Schmidt?
- VANTEL

If we had a good Schmidt we would probably keep him. All this talk about interest in Schmidt sure dried up.

Hang on to him for a bit then . TDL or if a team has a big injury. Don't sell low.

If a Schmidt trade occurs it would probably be after Top D Free agents get signed.

I am cruising through the 2019 draft day blog on day 2, the whining about the Miller trade was 5 times worse than today.

UN-FUKING BELIEVABLE!

They should NEVER be trading first round picks. Despite the conditions being favourable for the Canucks in a strong 2020 draft, and the Canucks not slated to become a playoff team next year, its still an absolute awful trade and Tampa just fleeced us.

Every time I seen him play last year he was very good. He must have slept with the coaches daughter or something.

Come on. Subban is a cap dump with that contract. You got to pay to upgrade your tip 6 with a 26 year old. The price sucks but (frank) it. We will likely make the playoffs assuming we add a top 4 D
- CanuckDon

(frank)en dream land for some in here thinking that you get a 2nd line player for rock bottom cheap.
-Manvanfan

Now it happened again and the cost was a lot again.

Maybe magic strikes twice and Garland becomes a first line player like Miller.

As long as we are a bottom 10 team, I'll never get behind moving first round picks, either back then or now. Hate moving 2nd round picks as well, given where we are at.

It's a tough pill to swallow, for sure, but the team got significantly better today. Imo

Tampa flipped our 1st round pick for Coleman, who cost a fraction of miller and end up winning 2 Stanley cups in a row.

Miller is a fantastic player, and I remember just this last season , a bunch of people in here calling for a trade because of his turnovers lol.

All I'm saying, and will continue to say, is while we are a bottom team in the weak Pacific, or the league, we should not be trading 1st or second round picks. Just my opinion and it won't change with the crowds.

Next year, sure. We paid a 1st round pick to rid ourselves of 3 Benning signing mistakes.i actually really like Garland, probably more than most in here. I still just don't agree with mortgaging the future for fixing now, especially when we are not good. I think 1st round picks should only be dealt to bring in complimentary pieces to a Stanley cup-esqe roster, much like what tampa has done with acquiring Savard, coleman and goodrow to win cups.

Since the 70s this has been a problem with this team. They are at a sink or swim level, as they have some of the key core, Bo and Miller etc, pushing for big improvements.
The rebuilding should have started 9 years ago and continued on for 5 to 6 years, but here we are with some pretty good players that want to see significant change and that is what they have done.

I hear you. I honestly don't think I'll ever change my vision of how I would want the team run. I probably feel this way having seen so many 1st and 2nd and 3rd round picks go over the span of being a canucks fan lol. I also don't want a repeat of what Gillis did and how he left the team post 2011/2012 with the cupboards bare, and now that pods and Rathbone are most likely with the big club, it's starting to look slim in the prospect pool and call ups.

No doubt in my mind we are better today than this morning, the 9th overall pick better make us better today lol. Addition by subtraction alone of Beagle, LE and roussel is huge, and Garland is going to help with the offense. I'm not high up on OEL as most in here, and still think his best days are long behind him, but I'll give him a year or two before I come down on him. I think it's funny people give me poop for not liking OEL, but the same people praised Benning for acquiring Schmidt and are now leading the angry mob in trying to get him out cause of a few "reports" lol. Schmidt is still a good defenseman, and I still think he was the best all around dman last year for the team.
