We gave up the 9th overall pick to acquire a player we're already considering buying out?

I would have preferred just acquiring Garland, keeping our 1st round pick and being flush with cap space in a year.

cupboard is stocked. don't forget about last year's first rounder. seems like a perfect partner for this year's.

I mean, OEL was bad defensively on a team that was overall better defensively than the canucks last year. Myers was better in Winnipeg, and Schmidt was better in Vegas.

I know we now have shaw to help out there, but if I'm a betting man...

Is 238 Last?

He's been below zero for 3 seasons now.

IF OEL pans out and it's a huge IF and more of a doubtful then it's one hell of a trade for us. If it goes down as expected it's just more of the same kicking the can down the road.

Good part about this trade is the team does improve probably for this season.

Only problem is that if they don't win a cup, there will most likely be very limited in what they can do the next season to improve.

The core isn't locked up long term to friendly contracts, they have traded away way too many 1sts and 2nd round picks recently to have strong compliment coming through the pipeline.

There's really nothing but Maybe Woo and MD coming out of Utica that might be impactful in the near future.

Wish he did, but he was just bargaining against himself as I don't think Boston would be in on this.

Realistically, Garland cost the 9OA with say Roussel.

I'm okay with that value as its toss up the pick out performs Garland.

The other part of the trade is a huge risk but could pay off in the next couple years. I get why Benning isn't worried about what happens in 3-6 years. Either he's successful in the short term and deals with the cap later or he's no longer here to deal with it.

Sometimes you gotta just take your shot and honestly this deal could be a lot worse.

All they need now is for every young player to now take another step forward all at once.

All I want is a GM Drafting Guru to keep his picks and draft with them for 5 years straight.

If the Canucks don't Seabrook OEL down the line, then we have the worst contract in the NHL.

If Rathbone and podkolzin are full time canucks next year

Our best prospects are dipietro, gadjovich, and whoever the 41st overall pick is this year.

Benning loves draft picks

on the plus side, with no first round pick this year, it eliminates 1 babysitter position.

He wasn't very good last season.

Think of Schmidt being an improvement over Tanev.

Now think of OEL being an improvement over Edler and the results might be the same.

- manvanfan

Maybe the Sedins know OEL better than most & input his talent?
