So seriously in this draft what is realistic what 9th would turn into?
Top 6 F ceiling? So Garland cancels that. - Nighthawk
Nobody is upset about acquiring Garland, it's the OEL deal that's the scary part. We potentially took on another anchor contract, it's a huge risk. If OEL doesn't up his game substantially we just traded LE, Beagle and Roussel for another 6 years of LE. |

Someone figure out a way to resurrect OEL. Maybe he becomes the next Jeff Petry? |

Fair take on the risk but that’s also the extreme OEL has diminished to that degree. A new start from leaving a horrible organization has to be a plus. Cap retained makes it more palatable. |

Every Benning move, trade, draft pick or signing had always been an over reaction with you slurpers. After 7+ years, he has sure shown us nay-sayers that we have been wrong to "over react"
24th in the league and last in the weakest Pacific division |

sure, that wouldn't be unrealistic.
the context around it is that he is now on his second contract and the team just took on a contract for 7.25 for six years. that's a bad contract.
so if you combine those two things together it means that this team has to win pretty soon or the team's cap falls apart.

It has the potential to go either way. Again though, trading 1st round draft picks when you are a bottom team in the league is never good. I'm hoping Schmidt is traded from some draft picks, can't keep sacrificing futures for now. |

Benning has this draft to restock the cupboards without a 1st round pick. This draft, and malone, McDonough, Truscott, dipietro and gadjovich are our prospects. So our core is better than what Gillis left, but we will have two 36 year old defenseman on 6 and 7 mill aav contracts that will accompany this core. - Codes1087
Woo is still in the system. Jurmo, Focht, Lockwood, Silvos. We still have some prospects with a shot, and lots of time to restock before our current core starts to age out. |

I guess it would also be extreme to say PK Subban declined that much? |

Not sure about the steal part but I feel the same. I can legitimately see this team making he playoffs and winning a round or two the next couple years. That's enough for me.
I tend to think of we can't win with Horvat on this contract we are going to be back to the retool anyways. |
|

I hear yah, but who's to say the 9th doesn't turn into a Shinakruk, Gaunce, Jensen, Virtanen, McCann, O.J. etc.
Atleast we have known assets. Don't think I could stomach another top 10 bust.
I'm extremely curious what the cap situation looks like now though.
Again, we now need new contracts for Pett, Hughes, D!ckerson and Garland... - Whiskey-Tango
If Benning can dump Schmidt today, or soon, I call it a pretty good off-season.
Just don't add picks to get rid of him. |

I really don't care one way or the other . Half the comments I skip over here and talk to a few people only. If they want to be upset , cool . They can say whatever they want but there is a good chance I am not reading it anyways

Those are B level prospects at best.
Again, everyone said he's a draft guru, but has dealt more picks than he has obtained over 7 years. Benning is going all in this year, and I get it, it's just not what I would have done, but I'm not an NHL GM so there's that |

We have $18-19M right now with EP, QH and Garland to sign. They either need to move salary or some entry level deals are going to have to make big contributions. |

My overview take…
JB is sold on OEL will rebound.
He got his top 6 winger & better than some might understand. 3rd line looking awesome. The 9oa isn’t stellar but still good. That pick is overrated. Cap dumps expedited the rebuild & all in mode for the playoffs. More moves coming no doubt. |

Honestly, if we can't show Bo and company that we are willing to compete this year and make the team better, we may as well trade Bo, Miller, Boeser and rebuild all over. Do you think Bo is re-signing in 2 years to a team still thinking about its cupboards today? |
