In a nut shell, Benning just cleared 12 million of space to expedite Beagle, LE, and roussel (all of whom would be gone next summer). He paid the 9oa and got a very good winger in Garland, but also absorbed a massive contract in OEL. If Myers isn't going the other way, than that's 14.5 million for OEL and Myers until 2023/24 till Myers is a ufa, and then just 8.25aav for OEL till 2026/27. That is scary. |

top 6 winger and top pairing dman, bad deals all off the books. I (frank)ing love it! - Nucker101
I can't justify this deal if it contains the 9oa pick. |

And let’s not forget
Connor Garland still needs a contract

I love it too. We may be taking on OEL's contract, but he's still a legit #2 or #3 D-man. Getting rid of LE, Rous, and beagle is freak'n amazing..... 12 mil that would have been sitting on our bench. Garland is 100% underrated... if you prorate his stats over the last two years over a 82 game season he's just under a 60pt player... that's pretty freak'n solid |

Exactly, they could of had cap space. Now they probably just added 13M to the book for next season.
Someone else has to be moved. Now have to sign Petey, Hughes, Garland, D!ckinson. - manvanfan
If it was the 9oa and cap dumps for chychrun, this deal would be great. OEL coming back for 6 more years is a real kick in the nuts. |

I'm really hoping Arizona retains some of OEL salary if the deal is done.
I love that people are saying they love this deal, when it was essentially the 9oa pick to get rid of bad contracts that were issued and signed by Benning in the first place lol. Without these mistakes, we would have been so much better off, but here comes the notorious "hindsight is 20/20" crowd |

Arizona only retaining 1.25 million per year aav on the contract.
OEL will essentially cost 7 million aav towards canucks cap until 2026/27 |

I will say though ... talk about taking out a lot of your trash at once! It's of course trash he created but damn ... can't believe one team took all those guys. |

In a not so great draft as this one.
I'd expect to draft a forward at 9oa that turns into a player like Conor Garland. A .80 PPG forward. Maybe a bit higher if lucky and someone dropped.
It's the fact that he isn't under contract and you are taking on 6 more years of OEL on the decline and Arizona only has one more season of all 3 of those players.
Taking on 5 more years of a bad contract. What's Van's return on that? That's astronomical.
If Van got a 2nd back from Arizona, I'm probably fine with the trade, good for both sides no one won.
If they don't. Jim better get Garland on a sweet (frank)en deal long term. |

And is Garland really all that? Looking at his stats 39 points in 49 games last year is nice but 5'10 165? |
