Philly gave away Ghost!!!
The Arizona Coyotes have acquired defenceman Shayne Gostisbehere, a 2022 second-round pick and a seventh-round pick in 2022 from the Philadelphia Flyers. NO RETURN!

That's a bit of a head-scratcher to me. I'd have at least have asked for something back. Heck, Jensen got us a 4th as I recall.

Maybe Stevie acquires OEL and Philly's picks to take him!

Arizona would have to give the Wings a lot more to take on OEL's contract than what Philly just gave to Arizona to dump Ghost. OEL still has what...5 years left on his contract? Good luck to Arizona on moving OEL.

Back to the Wings and today's moves. Looking forward to what other tricks are up Yzerman's sleeve. Can't wait for tomorrow and next week. Summer is rolling on by...

AZ's in the hurt-locker this year for assets for trades, they lost out due to tampering or some such this year, and aren't very-well stocked in draft selections, so IF we took OEL, retention would be key for sure. But I'd like to see him come over to us....

I believe the incredible deal that Stevie did to get Neddy, a goalie that led the league in GAA, 1.90 and Sv%, .932, 3rd in Calder voting, won a Calder Cup in AHL. WOW!
This erases any sting from the Leddy trade and losing Cholo, (if any).

How does Yzerman always manage to fleece everyone? He reminds of the guy that built TB.

Great couple days, yesterday we lost Cholo over Stetcher, which I am happy about, I thought Stetcher was gone for sure.

Over on the HF Boards, Carolina fans are freaking out, they feel completely fleeced. The potential of Ned is there for sure, he hasn't played 30 games in the NHL yet, but he was the calder winner in the AHL previously. There's a lot of upside here, and maybe Ned can be a goalie of the future here. If not, Bernier already said he was likely moving on as a UFA, so we got a young goalie with potential to be a future starter for a 3rd.

Heck of a trade, I see it as little to no risk with this deal, much like the others Yzerman has created since he's been here.

Canes fans seem to think there may be an upcoming deal with Anaheim for Gibson, which would slot Mrazek as likely permanent backup unless he moves on after his contract or is dealt. As a team looking to win a cup, i'm not confident it comes with a Mrazek/Reimer tandem in goal, they are gonna need to figure out a starter. A lot of those guys thought Ned was the future in net there.

Looking at the comments on the Hurricanes post, Wizard Yzerman is back after the panning of the Leddy trade. Plus they signed him for a million less than what they thought he should get from the team. It will be interesting to see Alex's name on the back of the winged wheel jersey. I love when they have to put a ton of letters in that font and arch.

Canes have NO NHL goalie signed!!! Reimer and Mrazek are FA on the 28th! They now own Bernier's rights til the 28th.

Good deal for the Wings and i'm happy with it. Hopefully this puts to bed all those mock drafts and fans wanting to use the 6th overall on a goalie. There are always plenty of young goalies available to trade for and they don't cost that much to trade for. If for some reason this one doesn't pan out, you just trade for another one.

Cholo has good offensive skills, but Cholo's soft play in the defensive zone is not something Stevie and Co. will continue to tolerate and shouldn't. I wish Cholo well in Seattle. This is not a Spanish speaking country. Take your lame, politically correct bs elsewhere and don't return.

Hopefully I don't have to read anymore absurd ideas or comments about taking a goalie at 6 now!!! Seriously with the average of how many 1st round goalies that have worked out, there shouldn't be a person who thinks taking a goalie in the first round is a good idea at all. We need to focus strictly on the best talent available at this point in time. And I can tell you that a goalie sure as shyte is not going to be the best talent available at pick 6!!!

The Leddy deal was a bit of a puzzling move. If I could meme, I’d put something funny here. Maybe it was done for the flip at next season’s TDL….we just have to wait & see.

I’m still of the opinion that when a good G is available, you take them. Call it absurd, stupid, whatever you want.
Listen gang, Ned was drafted 7 years ago. Most G draftees take around 5-7 years. My issue is when you trade for someone at the NHL level, they have a time-stamp on them. Players have an average of 3-5 years in the NHL of prime play. In the rebuild, we’re not contending (generally speaking) for another 3-5 years. Ned just happens to fit the timeline (generally) speaking. BUT, who do we have in the bus leagues that projects to be a NHL-calibre G? Petro looks to be leaving? Cupboard’s bare. All that being said, to me, it makes sense to take Wallstedt, hell even Cossa, in the 1st round.
I know we have a TON of holes on the roster. We also have a fairly robust pipeline for skaters; nothing for G. That’s my point.
Now, with Ned on board, maybe a G pick early 2d makes more sense.
The opinions (a viewpoint held by a non-professional poster, mind you) of this poster are merely his, and his alone. They do not represent those of The Captain who, coincidently, is in charge and has a bunch of time doing cool stuff in the NHL.
In my defense, I did state that I could/may be/was wrong. But my opinion isn’t absurd because one disagrees with it.

There are 6 other goalies ranked in the top 101,besides Cossa and Walstedt.....6!!! I am sure Stevie will draft 2 goalies, but he can and should get the best skaters in the 1st round.

I totally get where you're coming from.

And to be clear, I'm not saying that teams should never draft any goalies or that you shouldn't have any 18 or 19 year old goalies developing in your system.

The argument is basically that, since even professional scouts are terrible at projecting teenage goalies and there's barely any correlation between draft position and NHL performance for the position, probabilistically speaking you're better off waiting until later rounds to get your young goalies, once the supply of "relatively safe" forward and defense prospects has been exhausted.

Completely agree H. You know where I'm coming from, you and I've discussed this numerous times. Love the back n forth with ALL of you on this topic. Gems abound, in all positions. Boom or bust knows no skate so anyone could be drafted and bust. My hope is that we get a G that has more potential than most. And you're correct; there's a veritable cornucopia of G-men out there.....I just want the BEST

I agree. Numbers don't lie, unless one makes them!!! Like I said above; I just want to have the G-man with the best potential. And knowing how scarce G-men are in our pipeline right now, I'd be taking one. Of course, I'd also take a stud D-man, F-man, Coach-man, etc....

All ya'll have beaten me down over the past year or so. I started out saying Wallstedt at #6 bar-none! but I'm always open to other's opinions, which has softened my view-point. But man, can you imagine Ned AND Askarov?!?!?!?

Nedeljkovik is a fun goalie to watch. He can give you a heart attack with some of his aggressive play with his stick handling abilities, but he still is a good goalie and has been a winner at every level of hockey. I am not happy about the trade from a Canes perspective and think that you will enjoy him in Detroit.

Goalies are somewhat like doctors. You want them to be confident to the point of cockiness in their abilities. Nedeljkovik has that and is on record as saying that if given a chance he can be a superstar in this league.

I live in SC, and am a secondary 'Canes fan. But the Wings are my #1, always have been & will be. That being said; The Captain simply fleeced the 'Canes on this deal. Shameful...NOT

I love his attitude. I read some of the things he said in Raleigh media. Cocky little bugger, ain't he?!?!?!? His potential is pretty unlimited. Spot-on regarding his aggressiveness, but the same was said about some pretty impressive G-men. Thanks for your pain, fellow 'Cane!!!
