Hi Karine! I really enjoy your blogs and it’s associated comments. It’s a real treat.

I think I’ve found the perfect replacement for Weber! What the Habs need is a guy who can play 20 plus minutes, has an above average shot, is over 200 lbs and has a good first pass!

What team would want to get rid of such a rare commodity?

The New Jersey Devils!

First, I welcomed the trade that sent PK to Nashville! So I’m not a PK fanatic! I’m a Habs fanatic!

But Subban has 1 year left on his contract at 9M. With Shea out for the year we now have cap space and Jersey is trying to move him and his contract! He’s not Shea but he’s probably better than anyone else available! We’ll never replace Shea!

He’s got almost everything we are looking for I talked about above. He played well last year but he’s just not worth 9M to Jersey.

We could even potentially unload a contract going the other way! Or picks!

PK Subban would be the perfect short term solution to replace Shea! He knows the town, the pressure and that the Habs were 3 wins away from being champs!

Imagine this for a minute:

Petry-Edmunson
Subban-Chariot
Romanov-Kulak

Speed and size on the 2 first pairings! A great puck moving D on each pair! And if Shea can come back for the series (which I doubt) he could play with Romanov on the 3rd pair!

It’s just for 1 year so low risk (just money) high reward! And if it works out… who knows!

hey there andrest, he's not worth 9M to the habs either, and very, very far from being a replacement to Weber, imho.

I know he not worth that but it’s just one year a 9M! Who else can the Habs get to eat 20 to 25 minutes every night?

he may be the most realistic option, tho. not that the habs should make that move. but #1 d-men don't get moved very often. and it would be costly to trade for one.

It wouldn’t cost much to get him! Byron? Kulak? A pick?

I dunno, someone else? I mean there are many things you can do with all that cap space instead of giving it to Subban... besides, the habs have moved on, and I'm sure PK did as well.

All other options are also bad contracts with more term or Habs will have to ship out yougn roster players!

Replacing the scoring from Tatar? Good Lord, Caufield replaces the scoring from Tatar, Danualt and Armia combined.

Effectively replacing Weber is going to be the challenge.

If NJ ate half and tossed in a pick, maybe. He'd sell sweaters

I can see there's some sort of logic to this madness but I hope Bergevin doesn't go that route and finds something more interesting

I’d take all of PK’s contract provided they take another contract back! I like Byron he’s got 3 years remaining!

Byron has this year and next remaining and really isn't a cap problem
