You don't get a huge following on youtube these days without having some clout somewhere else to bring in viewers. If he wasn't a hockey player, particularly one in the largest market, he is just another youtuber among thousands.

With that said, I do think there's lots of variables at play here. Not saying Hyman in particular but in general for players. Where they are in their careers, is it the big payday? How much escrow are you paying versus earning side income? Are you a legend in Toronto to be making poopty commercials 20 years after you're done like Domi did?

- Aaron_85

Logan Paul is a nobody, with the IQ of a turnip. He just fought Mayweather on a pay-per view event. He's 26 and would be in jail if he didn't make so much money as a youtuber. Hyman took advantage of Fortnite craze, started arranging tournaments. Many of the Leafs are gamers, Hyman used his business skills to create passive income. Has nothing to do with him being a Leaf. Did he use being a Leaf to kick start the business, sure, will it make money every month moving forward. Quite likely. Will he take a hit if he is an oiler - probably not.

I think this is pretty false, thousands of successful youtubers came from nothing.

It’s whoever has a creative mind, some business skills and a little luck of course.

Hyman used the Leafs for sure and that’s another way of doing it.

Adding 2 37 year olds is pure genius.

You just said it had nothing to do with being a leaf but then you said he kick started it by using being a leaf. Those statements are opposites?

Youtube is a weird thing. There's a grind to make it real popular or not. Hyman did not have to do that grind. You don't think there are plenty of other streamers on twitch or youtube who were riding the fortnite craze? Of course there were! Hyman absolutely had the use of being a hockey player to separate himself from that group.

I don't think it's a bad thing at all. You use what you got but you can't say it didn't help him.

I think you misunderstand me. I never said you can't make it but there's a lot of wannabes so you need to seperate yourself if you don't want to grind for years.

Also the landscape has changed. It was much easier to be nothing to something on youtube when there wasn't millions trying to do the same thing.

Never used the word genius.

But adding both on the cheap would be a good move as far as I'm concerned.

Lou has done a lot more with the NYI with a lot less - you don't have to call him a genius - but at least acknowledge that he gets results.

If you read back the comment was a response to a statement that moving to Edmonton would hurt this income, which I disagreed with. Pay closer attention.

I like Dubas a lot but he needs to do some real magic to live up to him saying this will be the best team yet....replacing Hyman won't be easy but I wouldn't give him 8 years at 5+ML per season.....will be interesting to see what he has up his sleeve as he has some major work to do.....we need a big D MAN.......also trade Dermot and or Holl and give Sandin and Lily a chance to prove themselves as they are RFA's after this year so they need to know exactly what they have in them....and just talking out of my arse I heard a rumor a while back that we may see BIG BUFF in a Leaf jersey but not a confirmed rumor

If Suter was cheap and wanted to play in Toronto, I'd love to have him on a short-term deal. Even at 36 he's solid. He just wasn't worth $7.5m anymore let alone for 4 more years.

Suter on a good AAV would be a wise add for any contender. I was hoping he may be an option for Boston, but from what I read he may want to stay out West. Who knows, but he’d make a good addition to a lot of teams. The guy can still hockey, he just wasn’t necessarily worth his hit. An argument could be had, that his AAV for next year, assuming he wasn’t bought out, was close to in line with his value. I think the Wild were more so worried about the other 3 years. I still like the player.

If you read MY comment you'd see I was discussing all the variables a player has to use to make a decision.

Also doesn't mean your statements were conflicting anyway.

Of course.

He would be a great pickup on the cheap. If Parise comes too - fine (again assuming it is cheap)

Not to split hairs here, but I thought it was like 6.59 something, or 6.65 something. It was no where near a round number

I remember looking at it and it was like 6,657,432 ( not exact, just sort of a strange number).

I could very well be wrong

Edit: I was wrong. It is 7.5, but it is a wonky number. $7,538,461

Suter is worthy of a contract. I don't think Parise is.

Breaking Coyotes News - Coyotes on verge of acquiring Flyers defenseman Shayne Gostibehere. Gostibehere, 28, is an offensive defenseman with two years left on a 6-year, $27 million dollar contract he signed in 2017 with Philadelphia

Kerfoot is more valuable but this is the kind of deal I see ARZ making with the leafs.

Gost only owes 1M this year and 3.25M next year.

2nd and a 7th....Kerfoots contract will get something good back.

Because he had a huge bonus and is only being paid 1M this season.

3.25M next season.

Reality of the market.

Very glad the Leafs kept Kerfoot.....
