same with phil jackson in the nba. had some of the best players ever on his teams. but, when he went to NY knicks and actually had to build a team it was a disaster.
same for Holland in edm. hes in the HHOF as a builder but has never built anything - wingz4life

Worst case he gets fired after the year and the leafs core gets broken up and we see how it goes going in a different direction. Leafs have good young players, it鈥檚 not the dark days.

thinking someone will take a lot less money in the NHL per year because they have a side income is a little foolish.
Taking into account family matters is outside of that, sure some have taking less money to stay close to home. But that is separate from taking less money because I have a side business.

Hyman is the exact, prototypical player in his late 20s coming off a small contract that wants to get paid.
NHL careers for players of his ilk are short. Of course he wants to get paid regardless of side hustle. Who wants to leave money on the table at his age???
He should be taking every penny he can get and good for him, he worked hard for it. One of the Leafs only players that did. Not his fault Toronto can't afford him.
Also, this will be his last deal before bouncing around on "1 year show me you can still skate" deals....and thats if he can still skate at 36.
(personally don't think he'll make it to the end of this deal before injuries mount up)

Do we know for a fact its highly dependent on his maple leafs association? Or is it just assumption?
Also, if you are a big Zach fan, you probably still will be if he leaves the leafs. Then you have the oilers gamers who may join now that he is an oiler.
Who knows.
Where's the evaluation that he lose 3.5m in business if he leaves the leafs?

If we are talking about 11 sports the gaming company founded by Hyman in 2018. It is not dependent on where Hyman plays. He has become a successful youtube entity. His youtube ad income - which is passive income, not dependent on his hockey career but followed by Fortnite guys is about $500k a year. Successful youtubers do very well and he is on his way for sure but I doubt it has anything to do with Leaf affiliation. When he leaves TO, he may lose his ad for that cheezy law firm though

You don't get a huge following on youtube these days without having some clout somewhere else to bring in viewers. If he wasn't a hockey player, particularly one in the largest market, he is just another youtuber among thousands.
With that said, I do think there's lots of variables at play here. Not saying Hyman in particular but in general for players. Where they are in their careers, is it the big payday? How much escrow are you paying versus earning side income? Are you a legend in Toronto to be making poopty commercials 20 years after you're done like Domi did?
