I think that's exactly it. I don't want another wasted year either. JT getting hurt in the playoffs, Hyman and Foligno being hurt and less than effective . . .it allowed the focus to nail down Matthews & Marner (not that Marner didn't do a decent enough job of nailing himself down) . . Montreal was good, but they were also fortunate. I sincerely think if JT isn't hurt in game one and throws the team off . . . they probably win that and Montreal doesn't get their act together in time to avoid the sweep. It would change today's conversation considerably. That being said, being up 3-1 and losing the series isn't on JT being absent. That's a character issue and also a coaching issue that they magically think doesn't exist and I'll admit I'm also heavily troubled by that and the fact that they don't seem to want to address. - Monkeypunk
You're right. JT is not the reason they lost. It was a total team failure. They decided that it was best to let Montreal dictate the play in game 7.. I assume that Dubas believes by saying the players want to win, is enough to overcome those character issues |

So far this offseason they've traded Nolan Patrick, Phillip Myers, Robert Hagg, Shayne Gostisbehere, a 1st round pick, two 2nd round picks, and a 7th round pick.
They've received Ryan Ellis and Rasmus Ristolainen.
So that's good. - joel878
When you put it like that . . . wow. No. No, it's very not! |

I still think that Matthews/Marner could never bring themselves to accept that what worked all season wouldn’t work in the playoffs.
Matthews has his award and they need to start the regular season playing a different style. Break them up if necessary. Bring in someone who forces a different way of playing that applies their skill.
I liked their play when there was a good forecheck, a turnover a quick pass and shot. Size and skill that would work in the playoffs. Find someone who is consistent with that kind of play. |

Now hearing that a deal to send defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Conor Garland to the Vancouver Canucks is also in the works. Nothing done yet. Obviously a big deal.

If they were dumb Conor Garland trade fantasies, why would we need to stop, simply because he's gone to Vancouver?

I found that weird about the Philly trade, too.
I guess in Philly it's a little less risky, as they seem to do a good job of retaining players, but it may be a short-sighted move in Vancouver. |

Damn. I was hoping the Bruins could pull something like that OEL & Garland trade. It was always a pipe dream, but damn. |

or birds..
I’m not defending VAN, more just pointing out that players are available and Dubas is impotent as usual. Players are leaving Toronto en masse and soon it’ll be Matthews and Marner wanting out.
Don’t for one second think that players will want to stay because they like the city, or the fans are awesome lmao.. Toronto sucks, ask any Canadian. |

We have a lot of cap space with which to work. DeBrusk would’ve went the other way if it happened too. Not that I’m saying it was anywhere close or even in the works. It would just make sense.
As of now, without Hall, we have over 26 million in cap space, so basically 20 million. |

How much going out attached to junk though?
Beagle and Erickson, that’s like winning the Stanley Cup for the Nucks. |
