I prefer to keep Marner cause if you're trading all of Matthew's buddies he's as good as gone too with his Pals all gone and him being next in line to be the next whipping boy.

Fine with keeping Marner, but another bad playoff for him then maybe even Matthews wants him gone

he's had a couple stinkers years, yea, but he was solid the years before that...hopefully just a blip.

Yeah Blais is underrated. But I like Buchnevich. Rags clearing the decks for Jack ECHL?

I get it. I don’t see the value from Edmonton’s perspective to go much higher than that.
- RickJames77

How much is $400,000 of cap space for 8 years worth?

I'd go 5th rounder on that.

Other than showing up to the arena on game days, he hasn't done much else during the playoffs.

To save the reported $500k in cap space? Maybe.. If that is the best offer, then let him sign for 7 years in Edmonton at a higher cap hit
- PatC80

I thought it was closer to 200k, but I haven’t been following as closely as you I’d venture to guess. We’ll see!

Some guy in Twitter: Leafs don’t need Zach Hyman to win. They need Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner to play as hard as Zach Hyman to win.

Think the reports were
7 yrs at 5.5M per and 8 years at 5.1M per, so $400k difference.. I struggle with meth math

fair assessment I guess... If Marner battled like Hyman does, we'd have no issues..

Matthews at least battles for loose pucks and is pretty effective at it.

Do your franking research before you come in here.

This isn't some Bruins thread where you can just willy-nilly make up poop.

This is the Leafs thread.

We take our hockey, BBQ, beers, 1980s references and hatred of Habs fans seriously.

I guess they like Kerfoot enough to protect him, albeit, at the low cost of a b-level prospect and a 7th rd pick in 2023.

Where I struggle is with Dubas' assertion that he'll bet everything on this group.. It just doesn't sound like someone who will be making any major changes. We have the core 4 and will just trim the edges until something works(hopefully).

In all honesty, it sounds like he is willing to go down with the ship... It is admirable, but these past two seasons proved the Leafs are not even close. So, unless he changes course, what we see is what we'll get.

- PatC80

I think that's exactly it. I don't want another wasted year either. JT getting hurt in the playoffs, Hyman and Foligno being hurt and less than effective . . .it allowed the focus to nail down Matthews & Marner (not that Marner didn't do a decent enough job of nailing himself down) . . Montreal was good, but they were also fortunate. I sincerely think if JT isn't hurt in game one and throws the team off . . . they probably win that and Montreal doesn't get their act together in time to avoid the sweep. It would change today's conversation considerably. That being said, being up 3-1 and losing the series isn't on JT being absent. That's a character issue and also a coaching issue that they magically think doesn't exist and I'll admit I'm also heavily troubled by that and the fact that they don't seem to want to address.

Jokes on you.

There basically is no Bruins thread! Why else would I subject myself to this bunch?

I struggle with math too, but 7x5.5 =38.5 and 8x5.1=40.8

Definitely, I agree.. (chugs beer, while grilling a steak listening to Van Halen's 1984) the Habs suck.

Atlantic Canada is loaded with Boston fans. I’m surprised more of them don’t show up in the Bruins thread.

so bad

I like Ellis, and that was a good add (short term)..and that may take the sting off the add of risto

but all the moves together..are cringy

- senstroll

So far this offseason they've traded Nolan Patrick, Phillip Myers, Robert Hagg, Shayne Gostisbehere, a 1st round pick, two 2nd round picks, and a 7th round pick.

They've received Ryan Ellis and Rasmus Ristolainen.

So that's good.
