Because his side business is highly dependent on his association with the Maple Leafs.

I'm just saying I wouldn't be surprised if his profits from his eSports business drop by $3.5M or more, now that he's an Edmonton Oiler.

Penny wise, pound foolish.

So - do we actually know if Hyman is making 20 million profit a year from this esports business?

Or are people doing that genius-level thing where they conflate revenue with profit?

So what if the Leafs were to eat a signing bonus for Year 1, how much compensation would you expect and would TO be willing to eat it?
- mjones242

It likely wouldn't be possible given the cap rules on contracts to still keep the AAV acceptable and the term at 4 years. If I recall, the year to year variation has to be within 25% of the salary in the first year, and the lowest salary cannot be lower than 60% of the highest salary.

So if you give him $10m in year one, no annual salary can be lower than $6m, and the drop from 10 to 6 would require stepping past $8m to keep the year-to-year variations in the limits.

If you start at 7.5, you're still going to end up with an AAV that's in the 5.5 range no matter how you structure it.

Hyman is writing a new book with Lauren Pronger about the restaurants and boutique shopping in Edmonton. Sure to be a best seller.

The door is open as long as they're willing to come through it for the peanuts we're offering.

Andersen would be stupid not to look at the UFA market. Find a team that plays tight defensive hockey and needs a goalie. Try to rebuild your confidence and your reputation. It's either that or he's a backup now.

Galchenyuk might be stupid to actually leave. Sign a 1 year show-me in Toronto. They gave you a shot with JT & Willy. Make the most of it, inflate your value, and leave. Then go do all the coke you want wherever you want. Vegas is probably great for that.

the Highest paid GM in the NHL right now and, honestly, probably the worst.

Holland and Babcock were so insanely overrated.

Agree on Gally, Andersen's is done as a Leaf, his best opportunity may well be outside of hockey. He can spend some of that pile of cash he made in TO and buy a business. I heard the Mr. Softie ice cream franchise may be available.

I’d much rather re-sign Freddie than Chuckie if we could find the right price.

Where his family doesnt have to do with making money on the side. His family will go wherever he does.
Two separate things

- Fakepartofme

I disagree, which is extremely valid because everyone is different.

Some will if to means its best for them or their family.

Plenty of players have turned down more money.

- Santo_44

But many of those are probably making north of 6M already. So they take a discount to 7M instead of 8M. It's all proportional.

This is his BIG contract. He hasn't had one yet, and won't get one after this.

Expecting him to take a discount because management is paying 3 players $33M is just wishful thinking and not grounded in reality.

Do we know for a fact its highly dependent on his maple leafs association? Or is it just assumption?
Also, if you are a big Zach fan, you probably still will be if he leaves the leafs. Then you have the oilers gamers who may join now that he is an oiler.
Who knows.
Where's the evaluation that he lose 3.5m in business if he leaves the leafs?
Also, it looks like he would be making almost a 1m more with the oiler than had he signed with the leafs....

this has nothing to do we me or you. Jesus.
thinking someone will take a lot less money in the NHL per year because they have a side income is a little foolish.

Taking into account family matters is outside of that, sure some have taking less money to stay close to home. But that is separate from taking less money because I have a side business.
Quit making sh!t personal.

Whats best for their family is not all what is being discussed.
People thought he would take less because he makes money on the side. Kind of foolish.

Plus we dont know whats best for Hymans family.

- Fakepartofme

Plus we don't know how much less the Leafs offered.
If it was 3.5 anybody would leave.

He will. When he's a Leaf. After his Oilers contract expires.
- gergeswillems
