Not exactly, Jones can negotiate a new deal with the team that has his rights. His deal expires after this year and he has told Columbus to (frank) off. If you read my early quote from Friedman's blog, Chicago is one of the teams he is willing to discuss an extension with. That would certainly be part of the deal.

Sure, he can discuss whatever with anyone or he can wait for a big payday in a year which I would think has been his intention all along.

you mean when they let Rielly walk as a UFA and get no compensation.. Yeah, that should be interesting

Playoff teams trading pending UFAs a year before their contract expires is a lot more rare than some of you guys make it out to be.

Most recent examples I can thing of is Barrie and Lucic trades. Playoff teams, for the most part, don't trade pending UFAs.

He can still get a big pay day from the team he's traded to.
Plus an extra year.
If all goes well this season, the arenas remain full. I could see the cap going up a bit.

Ya I know buttman said it would be flat for years.....but we know that can change.

I could see the Leafs trading Rielly if they are not in a playoff spot at the trade deadline, other than that, I fully expect to lose him for nothing.

Personally, I think if you're not going to extend him, trade him now.

Agreed.
Enough with losing assets for nothing.
Try to extend him over the next couple of months, if not...work on trading him

by now, they should have an idea of what Rielly is looking for on his next contract, if you can re-sign him, then do it.. If not, trade him... today for 1st rd pick +

I can see the logic in that - especially if we can replace him in FA.

But it just doesn't happen often. This isn't a Dubas thing - this is league wide.

Maybe, but I’m sure but some of these guys just count down the days till they hit the market loving the idea of teams bidding on them.

Also, the stuff I read before said the financial hole from the pandemic was so deep that it would take a while to dig out and generate enough revenue for the cap to go up. Hopefully rinks are full.

It is ironic, he was suspended 8 times. Toughest player ever, until that goon Grabovski high sticked him (no penalty)

I'm not sure it was a paid position. Salary outside his contract with Arizona at the time.

Oh no, it would have to be for another dman.
Unless they get picks and sign a dman.

What happen to the rumour about the leafs making a big splash and trading for a good player that was on a non playoff team?

Guess it was only for hits

Isles just traded Leddy. 1 year left on his contract. But they needed the Cap space.
