Edm only has 5 picks in this draft...they wont be coughing up their 1st...they need to hit a homerun with that first.
After that its 4, 5, 6, 7 or something like that.
Edmonton wont be giving the leafs any high picks....myabe toss some prospect in.

Dubas can add something, if any GM can get "fished in" it's Holland. Think about the last four GM's of the Oilers
Holland, Keith Gretzky, Chiarelli and McTavish, is there a worse foursome in NHL history? Despite all those first overalls, despite having the best player in the league plus Draisaitl. Holy crap are they ever a good bet to get taken in a deal.

Most "rights" trades involve 7th rounders. Leafs would be giving them the additional advantage of 500k cap savings. No real precedents that I can think of but I can't imagine it's worth more than a mid-round pick. Dubas maybe demanding a 3/4 and Holland offering a 6/7 ....settle on a 5th and move on. - The Law

they cant trade the 3rd from 2022 because of Keith trade. and they already moved their 3/4th picks from 2022.
so its also a matter of not having the picks to give

Only if you want to be disingenuous and pretend like the value of assets can't change over time.
The value of Mccann did not change between when we acquired him and when we lost him. Which is why people have come to the conclusion that the asset lost (mccann) was equal to the value of the assets given up to get him (Hallander + 7th)
You can argue that is flawed logic - But it's disingenuous to argue that logic is equivalent to arguing that an asset we are losing today is equivalent to the assets we gave up to acquire him years ago. - Leafs43
Yes, I was being disingenuous in that I wasn't trying to accurately represent any true values as opposed to mocking the logic in the validation technique that is pining the loss as Hallander and a pick.
When protection lists were due, we didn't have to protect Hallander, we had McCann to protect.

Oh I liked the reality too. I wish they'd do more home-and-homes and back-to-backs against the same teams even now. But then I like the divisional playoff seeding matchups that everyone else hates too. I'm the only guy that likes that. - Zezel
