a Flat cap def makes things more difficult. in a normal world, Mitch taking 2+ mil more than he should wouldnt sting as much if they now had 85-86mil to work with.
there is no doubt in my mind they Leafs improved this past season, whether you think its can div related or not, they were pushing a 112 point pace. which is a franchise best by a bunch.
the only thing that matters is winning playoff rounds, and if they dont do that in 2022. I agree, this group is gone. - senstroll
Yeah I think another first round loss Dubas will be fired.
A flat cap sucks for the leafs because it clearly must have been factored in when they signed the deals. |

Dreger saying EDM wants to give TOR a 6th or 7th round pick to get the 8th year for Hyman. Hope the Leafs say no if that's the case. Eight years of cap savings should cost a high price. Easily a 1st or multiple 2nds. If EDM won't pay that then fine, let them have less cap space.
this is a tough one for me.
take a 6th or nothing and screw Edm for 500k more on the cap?
I think id just take the 6th..what evs |

In Massachusetts we have IDs that look like licenses, but just say ID. I just assumed that was the case everywhere. - RickJames77

Randomly saw all expansion teams first round draft picks. By far the ducks with Kariya and Wild with Gaborik had the best. |

I agree with you. I take a pick and focus on your own assets when you can. |

I think Hyman could be worth that money for a few years. But as much as it stings at the time to lose a guy, I've seen enough of the Leafs bringing in guys AFTER their peak years. I can't complain when they cut bait now, it's prudent. - Zezel
I don't know why people are upset about losing Hyman, it only means we lost Greg Mckegg for nothing.

I view this draft as a crap shoot more than most other drafts.
I want as many mid and low round picks as possible. There is going to be a damn good player who went unnoticed this year - and I want the Leafs to get him.
A first round pick would be insane - They are already overpaying Hyman.
Maybe we could get a high pick if we sign Hyman and pay his first big bonus cheque before trading to EDM.

He has created a pre-madonna culture. It shows all the time. Why does Marner wear an "A" or have that contract? Why does he coddle the team's failures? I will say one thing, it is ballsy to triple down on his theory. No doubt about it, it's now or never for him. - iTOLDu
Mardonna, hand of God.
Dubas should sign him now....but I think he is entirely retired.

Edm only has 5 picks in this draft...they wont be coughing up their 1st...they need to hit a homerun with that first.
After that its 4, 5, 6, 7 or something like that.
Edmonton wont be giving the leafs any high picks....myabe toss some prospect in.
but that's about it.
Leafs have no real leverage.

This guy is trolling Dubas ...setting him up to whine about the return.
Most "rights" trades involve 7th rounders. Leafs would be giving them the additional advantage of 500k cap savings. No real precedents that I can think of but I can't imagine it's worth more than a mid-round pick. Dubas maybe demanding a 3/4 and Holland offering a 6/7 ....settle on a 5th and move on. |

Only if you want to be disingenuous and pretend like the value of assets can't change over time.
The value of Mccann did not change between when we acquired him and when we lost him. Which is why people have come to the conclusion that the asset lost (mccann) was equal to the value of the assets given up to get him (Hallander + 7th)
You can argue that is flawed logic - But it's disingenuous to argue that logic is equivalent to arguing that an asset we are losing today is equivalent to the assets we gave up to acquire him years ago.

Nah, it doesn't mean that.

Sure - I think a sixth is fair. I don't expect Edmonton to pay top dollar for the right to overpay Hyman for longer.
The only scenario I view a higher pick/decent prospect coming back is if Toronto pays Hyman's first signing bonus. |

You forgot to include the pick 3rd round pick we used to draft Mckegg.
Oh sh!t - we also traded a 3rd round pick in 2012 to acquire the pick that we used to draft Mckegg.
This is the worst asset management I have ever seen.
