I like Lemieux and wanted to draft him instead of Q. He's turned out to be a better player although that's not saying much. I think he'd be a decent replacement for Bastian except he's not as disciplined a player and (like everyone else) doesn't have that chemistry with McLeod. He's cheap, tough, and not completely unskilled. He's still young and his age fits this team.

That said, if he's an a$$hat in the locker room then you simply can't bring him in. Especially considering how young this group is. Not sure how you know that about him. Considering his dad I'm not completely surprised. Claude wasn't the easiest guy either; although I was a big fan of his.

He is a cancer. I know of a couple incidents with the Jets that had him facing potential legal problems. The kid didn't change his ways there and got into a couple locker room scraps with some of the vets. He would be a liability, and even if he matched his career high 18 points, he still isn't worth it. Hard pass. Givani Smith would be a guy to target. I remember him stealing a win for the garbage red wings. He was all over the ice steam rolling guys and has been a good top 6 when in the AHL. I doubt it would cost more than a 5th rd pick, and I don't have the same concerns about the locker room or off ice antics with Smith.

I agree. Let's hope he made similar progress again this offseason. Tho TSN up here in Canada claims that Matthews is the greatest player in the NHL. Career high 31 assists doesn't exactly put him in elite company in my opinion. I am sure he will shatter that high, but I can't think of a Center that has won the MVP with such few assists (I think only 11 of those assists were primary too boot).

You think Risto doesn't hold a boatload more negotiating power on his next deal after this kind of compensation? This trade hurt Philly, and if Risto inks an extension you can bet it won't be a safe one. Meanwhile, Yzerman can play Leddy with top minutes, and flip him at the deadline to recoup his 2nd. Who is the better GM? haha.

No I guess not. Mostly ignore the leafs until playoffs and the guy can't pass or create space. Marner does the lifting and he camps in the slot. Worked during the reg season but the gaps got too tight in playoffs and the increased physicality took him right out of it.

Agreed. Tho that jackets pick will likely still be in the 33-40th overall, the kid is worth it. No clue why the Kraken took Geekie over Bean.
