Damn, teams in the Metro are trying to make the Penguins' job easier.

It speaks to the offer financial situation some teams find themselves in, especially ones that want to make a big splash. Have to move guys for pennies on the dollar.

After watching this whole situation materialize... I think Hextall did a great job freeing up the room we currently have. We got a prospect and a 7th to gain $6M in cap space.
The key now is to be patient and wait it out. Dont waste it all with a dumb move.

On 93.7 The Fan, Sean Gentille said that based on Risto's price... he could see Pettersson going for a 1st and a 2nd.

Precisely. Maybe not Kakko, but those others will all start pushing the Rangers to being a cap team.

I really hope the Rangers overpay for Eichel.

I like Eichel, but I think the Rangers have the pieces they need to win down the road. If they keep this group together and let them mature... they could be a lights out team for the next decade. Them trading multiple of those pieces for Eichel would be okay with me.

He’s 26 entering his prime. That doesn’t make much sense for a rebuild IMO. He’ll be 30 before they’re a playoff team.
- Rinosaur

They can flip him for more than a second is my point.

I don't think trading a cost controlled - RFA top line winger is ever the answer. This is just bad asset management. Buch > Goodrow and it's not even close.
- j.boyd919

I don't think one has to do with the other. Buch just came off a career year putting up 48P in 54G, so I think the Rangers probably didn't want to risk arbitration.

Can't say I understand your point here. Top line wingers don't grow on trees. Barclay Goodrow's do. They absolutely have to do with each other in the grand scheme of roster construction. 40-50 point wingers entering their aren't players you just up and get rid of.

I don't think you can make any correlation between what Philly paid for Risto and what the market is for any other defenceman. As we always saw with JR, when a GM finds a guy that they MUST have, they overpay.

I don't think any GM's will have Pettersson on their must have lists.

Crazy though, shouldn't Philly have been able to get Jones for that price? A 1st and 2nd for a rental 2nd pair D is nonsense. If that is the going rate for Risto, what the hell could we get for Letang!?!?

My point is Eichel is their target, plus the Rangers have some significant raises coming to other key players. As Vic pointed out they probably could have received a bigger return, but I doubt they could have kept Buch with Eichel on this team when you have guys like Fox, Sheshsterkin, Miller and Zib all getting raises soon.

Wonder what they paid and what salary is going back? They had the #9 for sale... probably Schmidt going with it and maybe Eriksons contract?

So you give away assets to get rid of Ghost.

Then you give up even more assets to get a guy worse than Ghost.

Pretty awesome for you metro fans.

The Rangers getting Eichel will be akin to the Leafs signing Tavares. You bring in a big contract and it often becomes the baseline for resigning your homegrown guys. I hope they go all in on him.

They were guessing Schmidt and maybe Holtby with Arizona likely to trade Kuemper. Not much speculation on salary or picks, obviously this would be a large deal.

Arizona has been busy as hell

Credit to @Gambo987 who was first to report on OEL/Garland, but Beagle, Eriksson, Roussel and 9th overall pick are involved.

Imagine if Chayka didn't screw them with the pre scouting workouts....

They need to do this. They werent going to get any value out of OEL on that contract... time to start fresh. I expect Kessel or Keumper to be next up. If Schmidt isnt going the other way, I'd be calling them asap about a Jarry & Pettersson for Kessel & Keumper trade.

I was worried about us bringing him in. I honestly don't think Hexy is going to focus on truculence......at all.
