From a distance, I can't figure it out. It is easy to believe, they should be a better team based on the talent in their system. is there a primary reason or cause for the Sabres not been able to pull it together?

They've had too many of the right pieces at the wrong times and not enough pieces at the same time

For instance 2 years ago they had Miller, Montour, Jokiharju, Borgen and Risto all as RHD while they only had Marcus Johansson at 2C, Johan Larsson at 3C and Casey "not ready" Mittelstadt at 4C.

Hutton has been horrible and Ullmark was always hurt

Also doesn't help that Krueger was a bottom-5 all time coach

Eichel is not the only franchise-changer out there. Deluxe defenseman Seth Jones has asked Columbus to trade him.

Ironically goaltending was TOO good in '14-'15 and TM had to keep trading goalies away to complete the tank
