I just don’t get how you trade for a guy with that contract who literally may never play again. That’s not the likely path his career goes down but it’s not out of the realm of possibility. - picklerick
Id rather split the offering for Eichel and overpay for Horvat and Dvorak than take the gamble. |

I was never on it. Hes gonna get severely overpaid by someone. Hes an excellent defensive player, however hes got no offensive chops. |

In addition to the cap hell the Rangers would incur beginning next offseason, acquiring Eichel is a major risk to avoid of a major trade. Drury would be inheriting all in his full $10M cap hit through the 2025/26 season, (& for now his NMC beginning the 2022/23 season); in exchange for a package of key assets dealt for the 100% UNCERTAINTY with his neck injury which he may need immediate surgery for, which would keep him sidelined at least the first half of the upcoming season. Then comes the regular post surgery necessary treatments, therapies, meds, etc. which would also have ramifications that could limit his playing ability level when returning, if not also for good.
Despite the various treatment means and surgery types available, there is ZERO guarantee that Eichel would recover 100% again. There are only a few professional contact sports athletes who however have succeeded, with the most notable being NFL Quarterback Peyton Manning, who returned to play several seasons, and won a Super Bowl in his late 30's after undergoing two "FUSION SURGERIES".

But with hockey played at the fastest speed of any contact sport, a trade for the big unknown with Eichel's injury can disrupt some of the good that Gorton rebuilt from 2015 to 2021 prior to being axed. In contrast, Drury if he so desires with Sather in view, can "OVERPAY" in another means if necessary to acquire a secure in health option at center.
BUYER, i.e., RANGERS, BEWARE x 50,000,000 including in total Eichel dollars. |
